This is The Ebony Bird. It will be
a place for honest discussion on everything Baltimore Ravens,
and an platform for humor, venting, and Kyle Boller sightings in local bars. While things may not look the best for Baltimore’s favorite team, that doesn’t mean we still can’t toast a few beers and lament together.
For now, the Ravens can be encouraged that
their sorry record might translate into getting one of
several NFL ready quarterbacks from the college ranks this year. Given the Ravens’ current state of affairs offensively, and the personnel they have in place, the logical choice for the team should be Hawaii QB Colt Brennan. Here’s five reasons why.
Ron Stack, a local man who made a
name for himself by camping out on the roof
of a Baltimore bar awaiting a Ravens victory, gave up his protest on Christmas day, and landed in jail earlier today.
Kyle Boller’s interception with 10:22 remaining in the
fourth quarter bought that same old feeling back to
Charm City last night. In all aspects of a football game, the Baltimore Ravens outplayed a team that many have crowned the greatest team in NFL single-season history, but the fourth quarter revealed all the signs of unraveling worthy of a 4-7 team. And then, it was confirmed.
In the latest installment of the ‘Supplanting Kyle
Boller’ drama, Heisman Trophy winner and Ravens rookie Troy
Smith will make his first NFL start this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Brian Billick announced yesterday.
Logic says of course not, not in the
blitz-happy AFC North with a young offensive line. But
think about it -even if the Ravens draft another quarterback, a Cam Cameron/Trent Green connection serves as a great warm-up.
Sure, Lewis is averaging four yards a carry
and has gained 515 on the season. But that
includes a 216 yard outing against Cincinnati in Week 2. His next highest output? 64 yards on 23 carries against the Ravens in two weeks later.
Bottom line, the Ravens should do all they
can to bring sexy back to Baltimore.
From all angles and view points, it was
a make by Phil Dawson to send the game
into overtime, but with games against the Chargers, Patriots and Colts looming, DOINK! might be the best expression Ravens fans can hope for this season.
Ravens cornerback Samari Rolle, who has missed six
games this season due to an undisclosed illness, confirmed
to reporters after practice this evening that the illness is epilepsy.
Fortunately, no one was injured and none of
the materials being carried on the train leaked or
spilled into the nearby area. As for the Ravens? They were in San Diego preparing to have their season further derailed by the San Diego Chargers that day.
Maybe Kyle’s inconsistency has run its course in
Baltimore. The kid has tried, and in spite of
problems with the offensive line, play calling, and marginal receivers for most of his career, it seems that a change of scenery would be good for Boller. His career record as a starter is 20-20, and maybe the vision on his future in Charm City should be just as clear.
Sunday is a critical game this week for
the Ravens and the Dolphins, as one team battles
for relevancy, and the other for respect. Check out why I’m rooting for the Dolphins at PhinsPhanatic.com, but first, check out why Brian will be rooting for the Ravens this Sunday.
I would grimace at his big hits like
a Skins fan, I would become frustrated with his
antics like a Skins fan, I would clap when he made a good play like a Skins fan. When people talk about how much of a changed person he was becoming, I believed in him just like a Skins fan.
Perhaps they wanted this game so badly, and
feel that other forces stepped into play on Monday
night. But the truth of the matter is that the Ravens threw a careless interception in the fourth quarter, inexplicably threw on a running down with a little over three minutes left in the game with a lead on the NFL’s most prolific scoring team, and lost its cool and a chance to win in the end.
And I’m not just asking this because they
lost to the only winless team in the league
last Sunday. Number for number, drive for drive, there may not be a worse team in the league right now. Consider this:
But more than the talk on whether Brian
Billick should go with Kyle Boller in tow, bigger
questions are ahead with the futures of several Hall of Fame players, namely Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis.
Just one day after finishing the season with
a 5-11 record and the franchise’s worst losing streak,
Brian Billick has been fired as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
As these Browns look to be the best
franchise in position to help out the team formerly
know as the Browns, let’s take a look back at how their provision of new life for the Ravens would be a debt well owed.
We all know Jason Garrett had a more
than impressive regular season with the Dallas Cowboys. But
it didn’t pay off for them in the playoffs, and just days after the debacle, sources close to the Ravens say the team is trying to make Garrett the third head coach in Ravens history.
