The best response to Mariotti quitting comes from none other than Mr. Roger Ebert. Ebert just tears him up.
As someone who was working here for 24 years before you arrived, I
think you owed us more than that. You owed us decency. The fact that you saved your attack for TV only completes our portrait of you as a rat.
Read the rest here , and don’t miss Ebert’s close. As the ...

Can anyone explain to me why Kyle Orton
didn’t play more than 2 series? It’s not as
if he couldn’t use the work. Do we really need to see Rex Grossman? I’m pretty certain we know what he can do. Plus the Bears have a slew of new receivers: Lloyd, Booker, Kellen Davis and Bennett.
I had no idea that Berrian’s massive contract
from the Vikings “made him the 10th-highest-paid wide receiver”
in the league. Do you think he’ll be the 10th best receiver in the league?
Hilarious video--must watch!

Run your eyes up and down the MLB
standings and try to find clubs with GMs that
have done more to improve this season than both the Cubs and Sox. I don’t think you can.
From serious to silly, we got links. Starting
with the serious. Dugout Central has an impassioned response
to Jesse Jackson Jr.’s comparison of Barack Obama in 2008 to Jackie Robinson in 1947. What is Fantasy Humor? For my rivals last year, ...
Rich Harden continued his dominance as a Cub.
Mark DeRosa homered for the 4th straight game. Fukudome
shows up with a pinch-hit bomb. Jeff Samardzija continues to mow down batters. And the Cubs have the best record in baseball. They moved to 80-50 with Sunday’s win and are 49-19 at Wrigley.

Hey Tito when are you going to officially
announce that blockbuster deal with Affliction? Wait a minute,
are you negotiating with the UFC again? Knowing his diplomatic prowess, wanna bet he negotiates himself outta ever signing with anyone ever again? Plus news on Ramage, Matt Hughes, Kimbo Slice and more.
We all like confirmation. Makes life a lot easier. Example–when a former boss told me how he thought “The Cooler” was just an amazing film, that was confirmation that he was indeed a pud. I didn’t have to wonder about it anymore. It sealed the deal.
Thursday night was the first time for this observer that Kyle Orton confirmed he can run an NFL offense, and run it ...

The best home run hitting team in the
majors finally got a home run from one of
the best home run hitters in history.
It’s safe to say CC Sabathia digs the
NL. He’s simply dominating the league. Monday night he
mowed down the ‘Stros for his 5th complete game in 9 starts with the Brewers. He is now 8-0 since the trade.
Great read this morning about what seems like a million years ago–the Cubs with Jim Riggleman at the helm. Riggs talks about what it was like during his tenure here and also comments on this year’s Cubs.
“I think they’re going to win,” Riggleman said. “The combination of Lou, who is a dominant personality, and Hendry, who is an aggressive guy, ...

He’ll be behind a bum line, with a
mish-mash group of receivers, a rookie running back and
no one that defensive coordinators fear–not even Hester. But so many years ago, I broke into a steady, loud clap when the Bears selected him from Purdue. That year he had 31 TDs against just 5 picks and he seemed super-cool in the pocket. He deserves his chance.
Maddon makes a killer managerial move against the
Rangers. The Rays are now 27 (!) games over
.500 and 4.5 up on the Red Sox. The big shock now will not be if they make the playoffs. It will be if they don’t.
Remember when Brian Bannister was on his way
to having another solid season for the Royals? Maybe
even a career year?
I did notice a difference in the physique of Rex Grossman in the Bears’ 1st preseason game. Chicago Sports has the story about Grossman spending his offseason training and working out to become the most agile, fit player he can be.
I think it’s of utmost importance that Grossman comes out and makes a major statement against Seattle on Saturday. But perhaps that is where it can ...
