Croatian Twins Score Twin Amazing Goals
Published 10 days ago by Daryl at The Offside
... over the weekend. Croatian midfielder Frane Vitaić scored for Romanian Liga I side Otelul Galati from his own half with this brilliant long range strike (above). It was so unlikely that the television broadcast missed it first time round and only managed to show it in the replay. But here’s the really amazing part: on the same weekend, Vitaić’s twin brother Ante Vitaić scored an equally unlikely goal - direct from a corner kick - for Norwegian team HamKam: [Frane's goal via 101 GG ]

... on the fact that in addition to Gooch and Timmy Howard, Carlos Bocanegra is playing in the UEFA Cup. 'Los took the opportunity to remind me yesterday via his game-winning header against Holland's FC Twente. Incidentally I would love to see a compare-contrast graph at the end of this season of how many headers were scored for Fulham before, during & after the Boca-McBride era; the middle would probably be as steep as Everest. Shouts to CS for the heads up. Props to 101 Great Goals for the clip.

... UEFA over what they call "the most annoying balls-up imaginable." (Uh, guys? That might be the wrong part of the anatomy you're using.) UEFA plans to use backup diesel generators to make sure this doesn't happen during the final. As for the outage itself, I prefer The Run of Play's romantic take on the situation: "Can you think of a more dramatic way for the mythic to anoint these three weeks than for a thunderbolt to fall on them from above?" Here’s a damning piece of info - of the top football blogs, more than half are owned / backed by corporations who have the financial wherewithal to sustain losses and low profits. These blogs recruit bloggers for their passion and pay them little (compared to what they would earn elsewhere in other jobs). And the other half? Niche-leading fan-owned blogs (Arseblog, AVFC Blog), carving out their own niche (101 Great Goals) or run by online marketers (EPL Talk, Soccerlens). And none of these ...
