AL Central Preview (Featuring Joe Posnanski)
Published 3/20/2009 by Patrick Sullivan at Baseball Analysts
... Poz: I do think this could be a breakthrough year for Alex Gordon, though I'm not sure what breakthrough year means for him. The Brett comparisons seemed absurd at the time; now they seem destructive. With ...

Where They Stand: Kansas City Royals

... battling social anxiety disorder. Now he's one of the best young pitchers in baseball that should only get better, and Royals fans are thrilled to know he'll be on their side through at least 2012. With Greinke and Gil Meche who went 14-11 with a 3.98 ERA in 2008, the Royals have a very good 1-2 punch in the rotation. Regardless of how the moves Moore's made work out, this season will likely come down to how well their young players on offense perform. 25-year-old third baseman Alex Gordon is the one that can really make a difference if he breaks out like everybody expects ...

Rethinking the Jacobs trade
Published 2/14/2009 by noreply@blogger.com (Jeff Parker) at Royally Speaking
... I think James projection is a little more in line with what Jacobs will actually do. Looking at a different player CHONE & Marcel have Alex Gordon basically repeating his 2008 season while James has him putting up career highs in everything, which I think he will. So if Jacobs does OPS .840 with 26 home runs well it would be hard for anyone to call that a disappointing season. ...

Walkoff Walk Presents the BONILLA Projection System: Age 25
Published 1/13/2009 by Rob Iracane at Walkoff Walk
... Alex Gordon, 3B: Along with Billy Butler, he's very popular in Kansas City because he is young and cherubic. Another jump in OBP in 2009 and he'll be Rob Neyer's wet dream. ...

Projecting the Royals' 2009 Offense with Bill James (Not Really, Though)
Published 11/14/2008 by devil_fingers at Royals Review
... I'd wanted for some players. I wanted to get an idea of how much the team might improve, but some guys have radically different playing time, or have (sort of) incommensurable 2008 and projected bRAAs because they've switched leagues (Jacobs) or were really hot for a month (Shealy). It's stil sort of interesting. Comments: Just a few comments, then, on the above projections and what they might mean. Again, I'm not endorsing Bill James' Projections. Alex Gordon and Billy Butler's James Projections were already discussed by Royals ...

Deja Vu All Over Again

Breaking down Clete Thomas with pitch f/x

... . One would expect such a youngster to come up and struggle for at least a little while as they adjust to big league pitching. Last year’s preseason favorite for AL ROY, Alex Gordon, certainly struggled before getting the hang of it late in the season and into the current season. I expected such a struggle for Clete but so far he seems very much at home. ...

The most overrated card ever?
Published 4/4/2008 by Mario A. at Wax Heaven
... Seriously, the card is famous and Alex Gordon is off to a nice start but there is no way this thing sells for more than $3,000 tops (no pun intended). It is a graded Gem Mint but c’mon! If you don’t know the history behind this card, don’t feel bad. I started collecting again in mid-2007 after a decade-long absence and did not know what the heck all the hype was about either. Here is the ...

The BYB 2008 Preview: The Tigers vs. the AL Central
Published 3/31/2008 by Ian Casselberry at Bless You Boys

Know thine enemy: 10 questions with a Royals blogger

... the last five seasons. The options on the market weren't that great, and the Royals will have to overpay to bring players to a franchise with their history of losing. Even if Guillen is a huge bust, $13 million a season at this point won't actually break the bank with the Royals. They are swimming in more revenue than ever before, and most of their young players won't be making good money until Jose Guillen is long gone. No. 6: Who will have the bigger year at the plate – Alex Gordon or Billy Butler ? Gordon because he's older and has a full season under his ...

Rookie of the Year Discussion, AL
Published 10/11/2007 by Tommy at Breaking Balls
... There you have it. I’m taking Pedroia for most deserving and most likely to win, but I’m open to other arguments. For those of you who are wondering about the odds-on preseason favorite, he’s doing just fine. In the second half, Gordon hit .264/.305/.472 and collected 32 XBH. What’s your take? ...
