... batters box. You are able to guess both the pitch type and location before the ball is thrown. Should you guess correctly you gain a leg up on the opposition, otherwise - advantage pitcher. 2K Sports should have taken some notes on that, because their "batters eye" doesn't even come close and it is too hitter friendly. A first time user should not be able to hit 3 HR's in a game with Daniel Murphy, let alone off of Aaron Harang and Arthur Rhodes. I haven't tested the online features yet, though I'm sure ...

... first as a set up man and then a closer for the 93 win squad. And he had his mind on things other than baseball. He read the Wall Street Journal, talked investments during batting practice and unlike a lot of Japanese players, spoke English fluently. Isn't it odd that with so many players earning millions of dollars, reading about finance is considered quirky? I'm guessing some of his old teammates will some day be asking him for money. ARTHUR RHODES I mentioned the earring incident in the Orioles post. Arthur ...

Jeremy's brisé volé was Jetered one dark '01 night. Big G brought his tattoos back after he apologized. Milton B. who grew inflamed, was never ever satisfied. Langerhans came and went so fast, he didn't even say good-bye. Well Rhodes was sold as pounds for pennies, gave up homers and blown games. ...
Have the Cards really missed on any free agents?

... Cards could use the guy. Agreed? Good.
Now, explanation of my thought process here - CBS Sportsline lists the 2008 MLB average salary as $3,154,845. For the sake of this little project, assume that number won’t change. I’ve cut my list off at players who were signed for more than the league minimum, with a few exceptions (I kept the three former Cardinals: Aaron Miles, Cesar Izturis, and Felipe Lopez on the list - as well as reliever Arthur Rhodes, a lefty who fit the Cards’ needs well).
Why cut it ...
We got Arthur Rhodes!

... Ever since I was a youngster playing Tony Larusa baseball, I've had knowledge of just how nasty Arthur Rhodes was. While his velocity rating on the game wasn't a 10, his stuff was absolutely frickin unhittable (I also liked Alan Mills). That was over 15 years ago when I was still picking my nose in my bean bag chair while playing games on my old Sega Genesis. ...

... Rhodes makes more sense, but only a bit. He's having a good year, though he's been far from consistent the last few seasons. Since 2002, his ERA+'s by season have been 182, 103, 89, 202, 88, 150. Once upon a time, he was a dominant reliever (think Damaso Marte, or even a lefty version of Salomon Torres), but now he's limited to situational duties. He's averaging less than 2/3 of an inning per appearance. Oddly, his splits against righties have been excellent the last few years, but that might just be a function of managers only letting him pitch ...
