... the Alex Rodriguez steroid controversy becomes more complicated, we are reminded that the “trainer” in question, Angel Presinal, has had close ties to Angel players since he was banned, in 2001, from Major League clubhouses.
In 2002 or 2003, for whatever reason, Presinal was lurking around the Angels. In 2005 he shadowed, and ”trained,” Bartolo Colon for the entire season, even living in an apartment paid for by big Bart.
Perhaps worse, Presinal has a history of “training” ...

... did a delayed-black cat cross Bart's path on his way to the signing? Colon was paid $30 Million for his final two seasons as an Angel, 2006 and '07. In these two years he went 7-13 in 155+ innings pitched, gave up 203 hits and 113 runs.
A curious stat: Troy Percival and Bartolo Colon each pitched exactly 586 and 2/3 innings as Angels. Their respective Strikeout to Walk Rates: Percival - 2.69 (5th best all time), Colon - 2.74 (3rd best).

600 lbs of pitchers?

Was checking in on the chat at MLBTradeRumors today and someone asked about the Yanks making a 1 year offer to Bartolo Colon. Q: are the yank looking at bartolo colon A: I havent heard that but it would make sense. Colon could be a solid signing at the right price. Holy fat pants, Batman. Can you imagine those two in the same rotation? Can we come up with some new stats to impress the Bill James crowd, please? Of course, Baseball-Reference has them each listed at, ahem, 250 lbs each. Paul Konerko, Brad Penny, And Bartolo Colon All Hit The DL
Published 6/17/2008 by Rob (noreply@blogger.com) at 6-4-2 — an Angels/Dodgers double play blog
... Dodger Brad Penny (sore shoulder), and ex-Angel Bartolo Colon (stiff lower back) have all hit the disabled list.
Konerko (B-Ref page) was hitting .215/.322/.368 with eight home runs and 30 RBIs at the time he went down; he was also the target of a number of rumors three years ago as a possible free agency solution to the Angels' offensive problems. Meanwhile, Casey Kotchman has posted a line of .298/.346/.441 with six homers and 32 RBIs this year.
Bartolo Colon had a 4-2 record with a 4.09 ERA in six starts and 33 innings with Boston.

... There are times lately when I feel like the only reason I'm sticking around is because my production, while not fabulous for my position, isn't as easily replaceable as you'd think. Indeed, there are some days when I feel like I'm merely hanging on to this job by a thread and watching my waistline expand. Still, I've been far more fortunate in my career than I've had any right to expect, and there are many days when I feel like a champion, even if I spend a lot of time seeming somewhat dazed and distracted, wondering what might have been. ... To quote Billy Beane, "we're not selling jeans here." Bartolo Colon, when healthy, can throw strikes with something on them. He hasn't been consistent the past couple of seasons because of health, but he hasn't been thin for as long as I can remember. Colon, who at age 34 (he turns 35 in May) is just three years removed from a 21-8, 3.48 season, is exactly the kind of low-risk, high-reward chance the Red Sox can - and should - take. Sure, he's got a lot of miles on his surgically repaired right shoulder, and there's a chance he arrives at camp looking like he swallowed Curt Schilling in two bites. But there's also a decent ...

Unfortunately, he also threw 19 complete games in those years, including 17 in the first two seasons, which maaaaybe had something to do with the shoulder problems that led to his 7-13 record and ERAs above 5.00 in 2006 and 2007. ...

Mariners Lose Kuroda, Silva and Lohse Next on List?
Published 12/16/2007 by Bryan Osborn at Seattle Mariners
... Another popular opinion around Seattle fan blogs (USS Mariner) is the idea of signing Colon to a one or two year deal. This, in my opinion, is a bad idea and would back fire more than Jeff Weaver did last year. Colon is going to be 35 next year and has been injured and ineffective for two full season now. And it’s not like he is going to turn his career around by hitting the gym. He would be a better option than Silva or Lohse ( because of length of contract), but I would much rather have one of our young starters and Baek get the opportunity instead of ...
