You know, one thing that validates my blogging at NASCAR Ranting and Raving is that there are some people in the mainstream media and/or marketing firms that recognize us credible bloggers in various ways.
I've been invited to press conferences, been asked to do interviews with credible drivers (look for my next driver interview to be up in a few days), been on radio shows (look for an upcoming guest appearance on 'On Pit Row' with Steve and Charlie) and so on.

Tire wear is a big, big issue at Indianapolis this weekend. During the practice sessions teams have been getting only 3 or 4 laps on their tires before having to swap them out for a new set. The track doesn’t take the rubber as fast as it has in the past, which would help with tire wear. I think this sets things up for a much more interesting race tomorrow, ’cause in general even with all of the grandeur that comes along with Indy it’s usually not that exciting of a race at least from my perspective.

The NASCAR Cup race at Indianapolis Motorspeedway is arguably the second biggest race of the season. With two weeks since the last Kyle Busch conquest race, there has been plenty of time for everyone to be whipped into a frenzy of pre-race hype. So why does it feel like just another race this weekend? Maybe I am in the minority or too isolated from the hype, but there is a real lack of juice to the race this year. Why? Did Tony Stewart reveal his 2009 plans two weeks too early? Maybe it will crank up later in the week and by Sunday it will feel bigger. Am I (hopefully) wrong on this?

I see a picture like this, and I feel a little sick to my stomach. Why? Because there's ol' Smoke, hanging out and reading his latest issue of Speed Sport News -- check out the centerfold, Tony! -- and then some photographer's got to go snap a picture of him, and then some idiot blogger goes and posts said picture with the express intention of misinterpreting it, and everybody gets a big ol' belly laugh at Tony's expense.
