Bernie Williams - Pure Class
Published 3/29/2009 by edwzipper at Sportsfrog.com
... So reads the headline of the New York Post article. It did take a while for Bernie to develop as you can see here . But he was an All-Star for five straight years and the following year won the silver slugger for CF. Ironically, his most comparable batting stats are to Paul O’Neil, which I think would please both of them. This year we have Gardner and Melky in CF. So is Melky, who started in the majors at the age of 21 during his first full season, going to be given time to develop?  Or will the WIN NOW Yankees kick him to the curb? Bernie brings up an interesting point. Has ...

Bernie: I Had It Easier Than Melky and Brett

... it. It took me a while to get acclimated but after a while I felt very encouraged. "I can still play," Williams added. As far as having it easier than Cabrera and Gardner, I'm not sure I agree with Bernie. I think he showed more than enough skills in his first few seasons that even these Yankees would keep him around. If they were satisfied with Melky Cabrera's first two full seasons in the big leagues I think they would have been satisfied with Bernie's. What do you think? ...

Help A Neighbor: The Bernie Williams Charity Hillside Food Outreach Needs Yous

[image] I will be appearing with Bernie Williams and Robinson Cano Saturday evening at the Hillside Food Outreach charity event to help raise money for the organization. Bernie will be there (read here about how I feel about his latest comeback attempt) playing guitar and talking to the attendees. I think some other Yankee notables will be attending, like Mike Torrez (listen to my interview with Mike HERE ) as well as some famous media types, like Sweeny Murti (famous if you listen to Sports Radio WFAN in NYC). So if you ...

RESERVE INFIELDER FRANK CROSETTI All apologies to Joe Gordon, but Crosetti is the answer to an amazing trivia question. “Who has collected the most World Series checks in the history of baseball?” As a player and a coach, Crow cashed 17 World Series winner checks. That earns a spot here. RESERVE OUTFIELDER BERNIE WILLIAMS He has the post season heroics (Big Papi is the only other person with two walk ...

Bernie Williams Was Quiet, Overlooked
Published 4/21/2008 by Rick A. at
... Bernie Williams wasn’t a flashy player, nor gregarious when he patrolled center field for the New York Yankees. This made him often overlooked and sometimes under appreciated by the fans and media. That aside, his impact on and off the field was felt throughout the Bronx, and is widely regarded as the third best player to man that lofty position behind only Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle. Now that’s exclusive company. ...

Know Your Free Agents: Centerfielders are plentiful, value plays not so much
Published 11/15/2007 by Patrick Sullivan at Baseball Analysts
... Teams in the center field market have some nice options to consider in the free agent market. Torii Hunter and Aaron Rowand figure to continue to be solid players for a few more years. I fully expect a couple of bounce-back years from Andruw Jones. Mike Cameron, at 35, looks like more of a risk. The problem is that all of these guys would like long-term deals, and every one of them figures to decline. Anyone remember the end of Bernie Williams's run in center field for the Yanks? Even if you hover around an .800 OPS, if you can't field you are not of much ...
