Jonathan Broxton, RP: Georgia's own Jonathan Broxton is nicknamed "Johnny Double-D" by Dodger fans for his ability to consume twelve Dodger Dogs in a sitting. He's a big boy!
Josh Johnson, SP: Fully recovered now from his Girardi-induced Tommy John surgery, Johnson put together a tidy 7-1 record in the second half of 2008. Possibly third-best athlete named Josh.

With men on base, Trachsel slowed down to a snail's pace on the mound, fidgeting, rubbing his cap and stepping off. It slowly became maddening. "A three-hour game! a three-hour game!" sang one of the men in front of me, mocking the Gilligan's Island theme song. Meanwhile, the section filled in. To my left, 3 very large, broad-shouldered men who appeared to be rooting for Atlanta. Just my luck. They were up for McCann's double, but quieted down ...

Uh, what? You know all my students would earn As on their tests if I didn’t count the questions they got wrong. You don’t get to pick the good and exclude the bad. When you look at the good and the bad from 2008, it’s an ugly season.

So like I said I started this a week ago and since then both THE HEFTY LEFTY and TRICKY DICK HARDEN have both moved to the Senior Circuit, seemingly bolstering the NL's case. What I decided to do was to pick the top couple of candidates at each position and rank them by OPS+, which takes into account both strength of pitching and ballpark effects. A smooth .995 OPS and three steals means Berkman is off to another great start. He's got a long way to go if he wants to top his 2006 April when he belted 10 home runs and .728 slugging percentage. Honorable Mention: Vernon Wells, Nick Markakis, Hanley Ramirez, and Brian McCann. This originally appeared on Bleacher Report.

... say out of any one on this list, he has the best shot of slapping out thirty homers (albeit a slim one). Hitting behind Chipper Jones and Mark Teixeira is a luxury we should all be afforded; you can trust that his RBI totals will hover around 90. Don’t draft him in the fourth or fifth round, but after that, he’s fair game.

... As somebody who likes an infusion of young talent into a baseball team, I’ve been thinking lately that it must be nice to be an Atlanta Braves fan. Nice, that is, if you don’t live in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond is the Braves’ AAA franchise, and if you’re a Richmond fan it’s fifty-fifty, at best, that you will get the chance to see top-flight Braves talent on a fast track to Atlanta. Jeff Francoer, the Braves’ 23-year-old right fielder, never played an inning in Richmond. Neither did Brian McCann, their 23-year-old power hitting catcher. Francoer was hitting .275 with 13 home runs in 335 at-bats in Mississippi in the Southern League (AA) when he was called up to the Braves in 2005. McCann was hitting .265 with 6 home runs at Miss. when he got his ticket to Atlanta in 2005. 2005 was a playoff year, not a rebuilding year, for the Braves. There never really are rebuilding years in Atlant ...
