Projecting the Vikings' 53-Man Roster: Special Teams

... threat to Longwell's job security or anything. Nor should he be, considering that Longwell has been pretty outstanding for us in the two seasons he's been in a Viking uniform. Since escaping Green Bay for the much, much greener pastures of the Twin Cities, Longwell is 41/49 in the field goal department (missing 4 field goals in each season), and 5 of his 8 misses have been from 50+ yards out. He's even thrown a TD pass since joining the Vikings (Week 2 against Carolina in 2006). Longwell has also managed to improve his kickoffs since coming to Minnesota ...

Taking QB Matt Ryan at #3 overall was smart. Ryan has all the tools, and it sends a clear signal to fans that the Michael Vick days are over. Ryan is now the face of the franchise. Getting WR Harry Douglas in round 3 is also a solid pick-up. They reached a bit taking OT Sam Baker late in round 1, but Atlanta is setting up a solid foundation for the future.

... RB Jonathan Stewart, OT Jeff Otah, CB Charles Godfrey, LB Dan Conner, TE Gary Barnidge, DL Nick Hayden, LB Hilee Taylor, OL Geoff Schwartz, and OG Mackenzy Bernadeau
What is it with John Fox and drafting Running backs? Gruden loves QB's in Tampa and Fox loves RB's in Carolina. It's seems as if a two-back system is the only way to go in this league, so move over DeAngelo Williams. The Bucs were rumored to be interested in OT Jeff Otah, its a good thing Carolina scooped him up or is it... LB Dan Conner was a projected 1st Round Draft Pick in several Mock Drafts, ...

... I love this pick for both J-Stew and Carolina. The Panthers hovered around .500 last season, but aren't that far away from being contenders in a relatively weak division. Stewart will likely split carries with DeAngelo Williams, at least to start the season. See the SBN Panther blog Cat Scratch Reader to keep up with Stewie. ...

With the 13th Pick in the MCM Mock Draft

....the Carolina Panthers represented by August West select.... Ryan Clady, offensive tackle, Boise State Ideally, the Panthers would probably want a D-lineman here, so Philip Merling is a possibility. DT is a bigger need, but there just isn't a great value pick at this spot. With that in mind, I think the Panthers have to take Ryan Clady. DeAngelo Williams (Memphis represent!) was drafted to be the franchise RB 2 years ago, but he's struggled to really breakout because of hideous O-line play. Their QBs are most likely going to ...

The Carolina Panthers, represented by Panthers' blogger Jaxon select... RYAN CLADY, OT -- BOISE ST. While Jaxon didn't offer a specific reason for this pick, I think it goes without saying that the Panthers need help in a lot of places, most importantly the offensive line. Clady slipping to them at #13 is almost a no-brainer. ... Mike Trgovac: Defensive Coordinator, Carolina Panthers. Now I'm just throwing stuff out there. Mike's had the Panthers in the top five in yards allowed since 2002, and that's worth something. I don't know enough about him to know if his style is fitting to ours, but he's someone who's done a consistently solid job with some inferior teams, and maybe his price lowered a bit with the Panthers struggle this season. Don't hold this year's stats against him though, the Carolina lack of a quarterback has nothing to do with his defense. ...

For all their injuries, Buffalo finishing with even seven wins is an accomplishment, and they came so close to the playoffs. It would be nice to see them finish .500.
