... TBF and I went split squad on the Red Sox games - him Friday, me today. I had mixed feelings about yet more preseason baseball (especially in inclement weather - as I said to TBF Friday afternoon, “Stay dry, have fun at the meaningless exhibition game at which I hope none of my players get hurt, because I would have to go hunt down Bud Selig and have words.") and would have been fine sitting things out had I not gotten an invitation to attend with Metschick and Melissa and Clare. I had two motivations: one, photograph the Red ...

TBS announced on Monday that Hall of Famer and current NESN Boston Red Sox analyst Dennis Eckersley has been signed to a multi-year extension by the network. Eckersley will be an analyst for the MLB All-Star Selection Show and the MLB Postseason including the LDS and LCS. He will serve as analyst on select TBS MLB Sunday games. With Eck back at TBS, I guess we’ll be seeing more of these types of situations this season. Click here to view the embedded video. Click here to view the embedded video. Sox first baseman Sean Casey retires
Published 1/26/2009 by Dan Lamothe, Red Sox Monster at Red Sox Monster
The Mayor is no longer in office. Sean Casey, the wacky, fun-loving first baseman who struggled to get off the bench for the Red Sox last season despite hitting .322 , has retired, according to Rob Bradford at WEEI.com . On the field, the decision shouldn't hurt the Sox too much. Mark Kotsay is back, and there's hypothetically enough good bats on the bench that someone should be able to step up and deliver the kind of quality hitting for which Casey is known. Off the field, though? File this one under drastic disappointment, since we'll lose out on moments such as him crawling back to second base this summer. ...

... You may think the start of college football and the NFL along with pennant races heating up are the reasons why this is the best time of the sports year. And while those three things are key contributors, we can't forget something else that makes this time so special -- the hazing of MLB rookies. The Rays youngsters channeled their inner Village People while the Red Sox went mostly for drag. ...

Robots In Spandex, Sleeping Until Noon And Falling On Your Ass [Waxing Off]

Once upon a time, a site called The Black Table had a regular feature entitled Waxing Off, in which women gathered in an online roundtable to discuss issues of the day, and also to make fun of Will Leitch's shoes. And so we got to thinking: With so many great female sports bloggers out there, why not import the idea here? It's just crazy enough to work. So behold: The second edition of Deadspin's Waxing Off. We found five terrific female writers who were willing to pen short pieces on a hot-button Olympic issue: Women's gymnastics. The Chinese are using 10-year-olds, heavy set men with comical mustaches ...

Ortiz put on a show during batting practice yesterday, launching several home runs out of McCoy Stadium. The Sox have down a more than stellar job in his absence(he HAS been out since the end fo May). If Ortiz can return healthy and provide more protection to an already potent Sox lineup, the team should be in great shape. * on another note, congratulations to Texas Gal over at Center Field, celebrating one-year of Sox blog-dominance *
