They might be just like the last reader's wife in the spring: Unemployed. Or what about the guy who still sits unsigned. ...

... It's nice that he feels so bad and all, and obviously it's not his fault that's he injured, but this little snafu does put the Yanks in a bit of a pinch. The only catcher left on the roster is Jose Molina, who has proved to be a perfectly adequate backup catcher in Posada's stead, but the Yanks are going to need a backup catcher if Molina is going to be the starter for the foreseeable future. They had journey man Chad Moeller while Jorgie was taking his break, but when they thought he was ready to come back they designated Chad for assignment. ...

... It appears the answer to the question below is Chad Moeller. While his current minor league line of .136/.231/.182 suggests he would be plenty capable of DHing for the Red Sox, that sort of production isn't going to cut it in the Bronx. ...
It has come to this for the Yankees

Meet your new catcher for the New York Yankees … Chad Moeller.
Yep, Moeller and his .224 career batting average in 8 regrettable major league seasons is likely to be behind the plate tonight when the Yankees take on the Tampa Bay Rays.
That pretty much sums up the start to the season for New York, 6-7 after last night’s 8-5 loss to Boston. It’s been ugly.
Moeller will catch because, if you watched the game last night you saw that Jorge Posada can’t throw yet. And now ...

... Cervelli is on the 40-man roster and projects as a future back-up catcher – perhaps as soon as Jose Molina’s contract expires after next season. Meantime, if Molina or Jorge Posada suffers an early season injury, the Yankees are now looking at Chad Moeller reaching the Bronx – not a very pleasant thought. ...

The Yankees signed back-up catcher Chad Moeller today to a minor-league contract because of the injury to Francisco Cervelli. Moeller split time with the Reds and Dodgers last year and was released by the National yesterday.. He’s a career .224 hitter and was actually drafted by the Yankees in 25th round way back in 1993. He didn’t sign, however. He’ll probably begin the year at Triple-A.
