The Roto Arcade Pro-Am
Published 3/28/2009 by Andy Behrens at Roto Arcade
Last weekend, while lounging on my floral-print mattress and staring into a giant mirror, I said to myself, "You know, hotness, right now a draft would just feel so...delicious." Then I stretched and purred like a kitten. Finally, after considering the shirt/no-shirt decision for several minutes (ultimately deciding to go midriff) I created a PLUS league. Thus was born the Roto Arcade Pro-Am. It's a fairly standard 16-team mixed configuration, and we're using Tout-style rosters: 23 active players, including two catchers, five outfielders, one middle ...

Kenshin Kawakami: Atlanta Braves 2009 Player Preview
Published 3/26/2009 by gondeee at Talking Chop
This player preview was written by Aaron Shinsano, who runs a wonderful site called East Windup Chronicle, about baseball in Asia. I think in some cases it can be difficult to project what a former NPB player might do upon arrival in MLB. Takashi Saito had 21 career saves over 12 years before saving 24 games for the Dodgers in 2006. Daisuke Matsuzaka was just beginning to realize his potential, and had been used both as a starter and a reliever, when he reached the majors at age 26, so guessing what he might do in MLB wasn't straightforward. Likewise, the other big Japanese signing of the 2008 offseason, ...

Japan edges Korea 5-3 in WBC 2009 final for the ages I'm no baseball specialist, but I can't help but notice the baseball dominance that the Asian nations Japan and Korea have put on since 2006. Whether it's been Cuba, Venezuela or ...

Your Team Ain’t S#!t 2009: #9 The Reds
Published 3/6/2009 by David Chalk at Bugs & Cranks
... i think our success depends on which Willy taveras shows up this year Hysterical, right? Almost as funny as Dusty Baker letting his ace Edinson Volquez start and go like 8 innings to try and outduel the Devil Rays starter who spent all of last season at Single-A Vero Beach. Argument #2. I’m guessing Reds fans won’t be as vociferous and overconfident as they were last year. Following the lead of my friend Aaron Shinsano of East Windup Chronicle, Reds Ain’t S#!t 2008 got ...

Kenshin Kawakami Prefers Red Sox?
Published 5/14/2008 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
RotoWorld has done some translating of a Japanese Associated Press article.  They learned that Japanese righty Kenshin Kawakami reportedly prefers the Red Sox as his 2009 destination (he'll be a free agent).  The translation notes that the Yankees and Mets have scouted Kawakami. ...

TCR Friday Notes
Published 4/11/2008 by Rob G. at The Cub Reporter (TCR) | A Chicago Cubs Blog
...Friday's game thread is below... - As you've probably heard by now, the Cubs received 25-year old outfielder/first basemen Doug Deeds from the Twins today as the PTBNL in the Craig Monroe deal. A ninth-round selection of the Twins in 2002, the lefty was an honorable mention on John Sickels top 20 Twins prospects before 2007, but didn't make the cut in 2008 after a rough year in AAA. His scouting report on Scout.com before the 2007 season sure had some encourging notes: Deeds is one of the more polished hitters in the Twins’ organization, and each ...

Yankees Looking Toward Future In Japan
Published 1/1/2008 by Mark McCray at The Bronx Stop: A Yankees Blog
According to a couple of rumors, the Yankees have begun flirting with a young Japanese pitching star, Yu Darvish. A Blog entitled East Windup Chronicle had this piece: I’m surprised it took this long, but the Yu Darvish to MLB rumors may have just officially kicked off right along with the new year. A Sports Hankook (Korea) report, relying on a Japanese source (Sports Nikkan), says that the Yankees plan to nab Darvish following the 2008 season. The report goes on to say that the Dodgers, Mets and Cubs have also made “love calls” (러브콜) to Darvish and that the floor of negotiations is ...

When Shameless Plugs Attack

A little while back Aaron Shinsano, one of the authors of East Windup Chronicle (a blog that does a solid job of covering baseball in Asia), asked me if I wanted to e-pen a review piece of Ichiro's season. I did, on account of Ichiro totally rocks, and it just went up today. So check that out if you want to distract yourself from thinking about why we don't like the Mariners by reading why we do.
