We must decrease our dependence on foreign right-handers
Published 9/12/2008 by Aaron Shinsano & Jackson Broder at Roto Arcade
Last December, we asked our friends at East Windup Chronicle to discuss a few players of interest who were making the jump from Japan to MLB. Aaron Shinsano and Jackson Broder have some time on their hands right now, since neither of them are involved in the head-to-head fantasy semifinals. (I'm heavily involved, which is why I've only got time for the italicized intro). They were kind enough to offer some thoughts on players likely to arrive in 2009. When they're not blogging about real or imaginary baseball, Aaron does some scouting for the Cubs and Jackson is a scout for the Twins. ...

Kenshin Kawakami Prefers Red Sox?
Published 5/14/2008 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
RotoWorld has done some translating of a Japanese Associated Press article.  They learned that Japanese righty Kenshin Kawakami reportedly prefers the Red Sox as his 2009 destination (he'll be a free agent).  The translation notes that the Yankees and Mets have scouted Kawakami. ...

Bugs and Cranks Top 30: Week 4 - The Number That Follows 3
Published 4/24/2008 by B&C Staff at Bugs & Cranks
Coming to you with only a moderate amount of tape delay is this week’s version of the Bugs and Cranks Top 30. In order to alleviate the possibility of another brawl, this week’s top 30 was planned and executed in the Bugs and Cranks Emporium of Fragile and Very Pointy and Sharp Objects. This week’s contributors would like it to be known that not a single piece of china was damaged nor did any sharp or pointy object pierce anyone’s skin, save for Hulkower who is kind of a clutz. This year’s baseball season is now over 3 weeks old and it’s been nothing if not ...

TCR Friday Notes
Published 4/11/2008 by Rob G. at The Cub Reporter (TCR) | A Chicago Cubs Blog -
...Friday's game thread is below... - As you've probably heard by now, the Cubs received 25-year old outfielder/first basemen Doug Deeds from the Twins today as the PTBNL in the Craig Monroe deal. A ninth-round selection of the Twins in 2002, the lefty was an honorable mention on John Sickels top 20 Twins prospects before 2007, but didn't make the cut in 2008 after a rough year in AAA. His scouting report on Scout.com before the 2007 season sure had some encourging notes: Deeds is one of the more polished hitters in the Twins’ organization, and each ...

Yankees Looking Toward Future In Japan
Published 1/1/2008 by Mark McCray at The Bronx Stop: A Yankees Blog
According to a couple of rumors, the Yankees have begun flirting with a young Japanese pitching star, Yu Darvish. A Blog entitled East Windup Chronicle had this piece: I’m surprised it took this long, but the Yu Darvish to MLB rumors may have just officially kicked off right along with the new year. A Sports Hankook (Korea) report, relying on a Japanese source (Sports Nikkan), says that the Yankees plan to nab Darvish following the 2008 season. The report goes on to say that the Dodgers, Mets and Cubs have also made “love calls” (러브콜) to Darvish and that the floor of negotiations is ...

When Shameless Plugs Attack
Published 12/17/2007 by Jeff <jbingham@gmail.com> at Lookout Landing
A little while back Aaron Shinsano, one of the authors of East Windup Chronicle (a blog that does a solid job of covering baseball in Asia), asked me if I wanted to e-pen a review piece of Ichiro's season. I did, on account of Ichiro totally rocks, and it just went up today. So check that out if you want to distract yourself from thinking about why we don't like the Mariners by reading why we do.
