Anyone See A Problem Here?

Courtesy of the folks from the Worldwide Sports Leader (link here) & (graphic here). If I remember correctly, didn’t we win the game? Manny made a great catch, didn’t Jay Payton hit a grand slam homer off Hideki Okajima in the seventh inning to send us to victory?
So much for giving the Baltimore Orioles credit for sweeping the World Champions, eh?

Wrapping Up the Offseason

... off. * Speaking of Hernandez, Christensen had an entry in his blog yesterday outlining the details of the newly acquired pitcher's contract, which includes an incentive whereby Hernandez will receive $100,000 if he wins a Cy Young Award this year. Apparently that's pretty standard, but it still seems kind of funny to me. I'd be fine with the Twins rewarding him with $100 million if he wins the Cy Young. * Finally, here's the image that graced the front page of ESPN.com's MLB section yesterday: Could that be any more depressing for a ...

... on Andy Pettitte and Alex Rodriguez recently. Torre said Pettitte was "leaning towards staying home" and it was "possible" the Dodgers could sign A-Rod. Such a signing would cost the Dodgers the valuable 16th overall pick next year. I recently watched an ESPN video (top right corner) where Keith Law said he didn't see Colletti patching things up to cut a deal with Scott Boras. If the Dodgers are to sign A-Rod it might have to be Dodgers owner Frank McCourt taking care of things. It's assumed ...

ESPN Player Rankings

... While searching through the internet I came across an article by ESPN were they rank players based on certain stats. The formula ranks all positions with equal importance such as relievers, starters, and position players. This new ranking system has some flaws, but it starts an interesting debate. Is a reliever or closer as important as a #3 hitter or #1 starter? I don’t think so, but its debatable. J.J. Putz was the lone Mariner on the list at 22, he is the highest ranking reliever on the list. ...
The Draft

... . (He'll appreciate it if you won't shout obscenities up to him as he sits in the pressbox.) ESPN actually has some good stuff if you can stand their site. The latest I can glean from what I've read is that the Nats are likely to pass on Wieters and Rick Porcello, the consensus top arm in the draft. Both are Boras clients and will be expecting big money (and major league deals). The team will deny that money is a factor in their decision, but given everything else that's happened, it's certainly going to cause some doubt. It looks like they're leaning towards Mike Moustakas. He's also a Boras client, but his demands are expected to be much lower. He's nominally a shortstop, though there are questions about whether he's up to the position in the majors. You see words like "athleticism" used in descriptions of him, which as to send the little tool sensor in Bowden's head buzzing. I don't really know him from Adam, but given the thi ...
