RP Corpas put on waivers, coming to Boston?
Published 9 days ago by noreply@blogger.com (The Bottomline) at The Bottom Line: A Boston Red Sox Blog
Nick Cafardo had an interesting note on Extra Bases this morning: [image] One of the interesting names that appeared on today's waiver wire was Colorado reliever Manny Corpas. Before you think that the 25-year-old righthander would be a nice fit for the Red Sox, consider that several teams with worst records than Boston would put in a claim for him. Corpas signed a four-year, $8.025 million extension with the Rockies in February. He's gone in and out of the closer role. Mostly a set-up guy, but an excellent fit for someone. Colorado is putting him out there probably to ...

RED SOX ACQUIRE PAUL BYRD

... push him back to Friday to take Clay Buchholz's start. This move was a necessity for the Sox. Byrd won't amaze, but he's a solid 5th starter. With Wakefield down, Buchholz struggling, and Colon out indefinitely; Byrd can give the team some solid innings. And unlike Buchholz, he can give the Sox a chance to win some games. Byrd's also riding a bit of a hot streak. He's 4-0 in his last 4 starts, with a 1.24 ERA. Source: Extra Bases ...

But, almost before anyone realized what was happening, it all started to spin out of control. A couple ugly incidents of domestic violence. Angry and inflammatory words. One event after another, following in ever-quickening sucession. And then, just like that, it was over. He was awe-inspiring. He was endlessly entertaining. He was damn infuriating. And ...

... OK, so Manny's career has never had anything to do with the Pirates, but they did seem to get the raw end of this deal. Deadline Manny-ness: Dodgers Get Ramirez

... at it, Ramirez isn’t exactly a charmer. His “Manny being Manny” act wore so thin in Boston that Theo Epstein and Co. decided it was worth giving up one of the most productive right-handed bats in modern history for a guy who’s most pressure filled at-bats came in the World Baseball Classic as a member of team Canada. And Manny’s displeasure was well documented. Yesterday he held up a sing in the dugout that read, “I’m going to Green Bay for Brett Favre straight up!” The Boston Globe documented the strange chain of events that led to Ramirez’s departure. But this isn’t about ...

La la land seems a lot more fitting for Manny

Manny Ramirez, meet a town that has no problem with showing up late to games. Welcome (officially) to La la land — a place that many Sox fans thought Manny spent most of his time mentally. Ramirez will head west to a completely opposite city from Boston in a three-team deal that sends Jason Bay to the Sox from Pittsburgh. The Sox will also pay $7 million and include two bullpen duds, Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss. So enjoy the West Coast, Manny. Crack open an avocado with Joe Torrie. Grab an In-N-Out burger off the freeway. Grab a surf ...
