Judo Olympian Ronda Rousey Uses Her Blog to Accuse an Official of Molesting Athletes
Published 13 days ago by Michael David Smith at FanHouse
Filed under: USAThe great debate about whether sports blogs have any standards -- and whether sports blogs should have any standards -- has focused almost exclusively on the caricatured sports blogger who has no accountability, no credentials and no access. But there's another group of sports bloggers who frequently get lost in these discussions: athletes who bypass the media and communicate directly to fans through their own blogs. Athletes' accountability may be up for debate, but their credentials and access can't be denied. Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards is the gold standard; Chris Cooley ...
Ryan Zimmerman Blogs: These are Boring
Published 14 days ago by Matt Brown at Bugs & Cranks
I don’t know why I feel obligated to continue the ongoing saga of one man’s terrible blog. There’s really nothing there that you probably couldn’t find out through google and press releases. That said, these really entertain me, but not in the normal, Chris Cooley or Gilbert Arenas athlete blogging way.
When Cooley and Arenas blog, they share lengthy looks at some of the more interested parts of their lives. Chris Cooley wrote about how embarrassing it is to get drug tested in the NFL. Arenas has written many, many crazy things over there, some of which you have to read to believe, but I ...
NBA: Taking It To The Blogs

Rod Benson has never played a day in the NBA, but he is known in the basketball blogosphere. Benson was in Toronto on Friday to participate in the Raptors' free-agent camp. He talked to Post writer Eric Koreen about his off-the-court skills, here. Below you will find a list of NBA blogs, some funny, others defunct, and still others solipsistic: Blog Name: NBA.com Blog: Flea Contributor(s): Flea of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers Style: Stream of consciousness. Beatnik poetry. Often lacks punctuation. Flagrant bias to Los Angeles Lakers. Sample: "there was no way an ex celtic laker hater like kevin ...

Jason Campbell Discusses Rabach's Rump

... Ovechkin looks "not sexy-for-a-hockey-player-hot, but male-model, smoky-stare hot." Took the words right off my fingertips. * Gilbert Arenas . More than five weeks without a single entry, and this after writing an ominous "I'll give you all a hesitant no, this is not my last blog," in his last post. This is by far the longest dry spell in the 20-month history of Gilbert's blog. * ...
Goodbye, Gilbert? Arenas Opts Out of DC Contract
Published 28 days ago by jason at SPORTSbyBROOKS
This just in from headquarters: Agent Zero is looking for a new assignment, as Gilbert Arenas has opted out of his contract . Gilbert Arenas choke Ivan Carter of the WASHINGTON POST reports that the Wizards star had filled out the necessary paperwork with the NBA office last Friday. So, as of right now, just call Arenas “Unrestricted Free Agent Zero.” But that doesn’t mean Gilbert is definitely vaulting from the Verizon Center. Arenas is giving up $12.8 million in salary next season in order to go for the big bucks - like, say, a new six-year deal that could be worth almost $120 million. However, he’s willing to forgo a million ...
Dexter Manley was ahead of his time

After
reading this
George Solomon column, the magnificent Dan Steinberg of the DC Sports Bog
got curious about Dexter Manley and his extremely quotable nature in his
nine-year stint ('81-'89) as a Washington Redskin. He
dug up some classics. Some of my favorites:
On his fame, date unclear: "The three most famous people in this country are Michael Jackson, Prince and me."
On facing an injured Joe Montana, November, 1986: "We're not going to play patty-cake. If I get there, I'd like to ring his clock. I wouldn't want to hurt the guy. But why do ...

FtB is joined by the LA Times' Kurt Streeter for a lively discussion. They argue that Stern misconstrued Pierce's hand motion as a gang sign. Definitely worth reading the entire debate . My shorthand does not do their take justice. But, here's the cribnotes, FtB's analysis: Davidstern_2 "David Stern has done a lot of good for the game, but more and more, he seems to be ...

Did Gilbert Arenas Slyly Pull a Kobe Bryant?
Published 5/9/2008 by TheBigLead at The Big Lead
Hear us out: A little over 11 months ago, Kobe Bryant was disgusted with the Lakers. Having won jack squat since running Shaq out of town, Kobe demanded a trade. The media frothed, and so did blogs.
Earlier this week, Washington’s Gilbert Arenas wrote this on his blog:

Published 5/8/2008 by Nate (noreply@blogger.com) at Nats Triple Play
Put down the laptop and nobody has to have their, "face-of-the-franchise, future All-Star and Gold Glove third baseman" reputation ruined. Ryan Zimmerman does many, many things well. Early evidence suggests that blogging might not be one of them. (H/T to Steinbog.) Now, NTP loves us some Ryan Zimmerman. Even when he was hitting .215 and swinging at the infielders playing around the horn, we were still Zimmerfans. But DC is a tough town for athlete/bloggers. Gilbert Arenas set the bar very, very high and Chris Cooley has blown past it in record time. That's a lot to live up to for a guy who's ...

Washington Wizards Future Part II: The Assumptions

This is the second installment of a four-part series assessing the future of the Washington Wizards. Part one focused on the current player contract situation. Part two keys in on the free agency of Antawn Jamison and Gilbert Arenas. Washington Wizards Future Part II: The Assumptions Assumption #1: Antawn Jamison will be back….because without him, you lose Gilbert Arenas, right?. I know you never miss Gilbert Arenas' blog — because you do nothing at work except make muxtapes and play Yahoo! billiards — but if you haven't had a chance to check out his latest entry, then I suggest you do. Clocking in at around 3400 words, Gil talks about wanting to remain teammates with Antawn Jamison, the significance of the tattoo on his knee, his rehabilitation plans for the summer, Grand Theft Auto IV and much, much more. Go ahead, kill an hour.

Re-iterating what he said months ago, Gilbert Arenas has once again let it be known that if the Washington Wizards don’t re-sign teammate Antawn Jamison this summer, then he’s a goner, too.
The future is the future. I want to be back in Washington, but weird things happen in free agency. If Antawn is not back, then there’s no point in me coming back because he’s part of my success, too.

Gilbert talks Cavs
Published 5/7/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Matt) at Le Cavs! A Cleveland Cavaliers Blog
From his latest blog: Looking Back on the Cleveland Series I’m very disappointed that I wasn’t healthy enough to help them through the First Round. It was a very disappointing year for me personally, but as far as team success, they should walk around with their heads held high. When I got hurt, the critics said they weren’t going to be able to make the playoffs and I think they proved everybody wrong. I know they’re disappointed at losing in the First Round to Cleveland, but they had a great player over there in LeBron, and they did a great job. It was an entertaining series. The hype and drama ...
