Coach's 40-Yard Dash
Published 4/9/2009 by War Eagle Atlanta at Fanblogs.com
The Tampa Tribune's Brett McMurphy wrote today about South Florida coach Jim Leavitt's attempt to promote the Bull's Spring game this Saturday by running a timed 40-yard dash and then challenging all students to break his mark. Those successful will win a T-shirt proclaiming, "I'm Faster than Leavitt". The Bulls evidently must not be expecting 92,000 at Raymond James this weekend.
“My goal is to break a six-flat,” Leavitt said after Wednesday’s practice. “I’ll probably hit a 5.99. If anyone can’t beat me, that will be really sad. If there’s a student that can’t beat me … it ain’t ...

UNC slides in the polls after the loss to Maryland
Published 11/16/2008 by A.E.M. (noreply@blogger.com) at The 5th Corner
The college poll rankings for week 12 (games through November 14th) are now available. It was pretty evident that North Carolina would fall from its spot in the high teens. The AP however kept the Tar Heels in the Top 25, ranking them just on the fringe, as the 25th ranked team in the nation. There is two other teams in the Top 25 from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The first team is Maryland (22nd) and then right behind it Miami (Fl) (23rd). From the web site of the Fan Blogs (of Rivals.com) I found this neat site called ...
The Ultimate Toast to Bo
Published 8/18/2008 by dawizofodds (noreply@blogger.com) at The Wiz of Odds
Bo Schembechler was never one to whine, but now there is wine named after the Michigan coaching legend. Bo Merlot will be unveiled in the Ann Arbor area next week before the Wolverines' opener against those teetotalers from Utah. The merlot comes from a winery in Monterey because California is the site of the Rose Bowl, which Schembechler set as his team's goal each season. The price is $19.69. Of course, 1969 was Schembechler's first season as Wolverine coach. The wine is described as having an "intense fruit forwardness with a luscious berry concentration ... ...

As reported by our SB Nation colleagues at Corn Nation (see? another Big 12 blog with "Nation" in the title! it’s like their corner of the blogosphere was carved up by Woodrow Wilson in a hotel room in Paris!), Trev Alberts recently counted down his top five college football weblogs. Take a look:
As has been noted in this space previously, Trev is a traditional media guy who "gets it" where the blogosphere is concerned. (Also, Trev totally carried that slacker Mark May!) His shout out ...

For the record, he picks:
#5 - Corn Nation
#4 - Fanblogs.com #3 - EDSBS, and says that Orson has to work harder. That's pretty damned funny, right there. #2 - College Football Resource #1 - SMQ. He knows ...
Should the NCAA Ban Beer Advertising?
Published 8/10/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Mark) at SportsBiz - The Business of Sports Illuminated
The NCAA is going to be faced with an interesting decision at its next meeting. Letters requesting that the NCAA place beer on its list of products that cannot be advertised during college games has been sent to Myles Brand signed by 60 Division I presidents, 240 athletic directors and 101 football and basketball coaches. The current list of banned products includes cigarettes, guns, nightclubs and gambling. The petition was sponsored by the Center for Science in the Public Interest and copies of the letters can be found here. The list of signatories is interesting in a ...

The guys at Fanblogs.com and Every Day Should Be Saturday.com have come up with a cool idea to help victims of the numerous tragedies around the country – the tornadoes in the Midwest, the storms in the Southeast and the wildfires in Florida and California. They are holding a contest called The Charity Bowl. Basically, they rank the top 10 schools who give the most money to the American Red Cross. The winning school (announced on Thursday) will be given huge recognition on both web sites – complete with school colors and mascots. Auburn is currently in third place ...

The world is a rolling hot mess, and occasionally in all the festivity some people fall under its glittery wheels. There happens to be an abundance of mayhem at this moment, much of it beyond the control of the people involved–meaning even a grizzled misanthrope like yourself may reach down in your wallet and pluck a doubloon or two from your fortune and donate to charity.
Tornadoes in Oklahoma and Georgia and the cyclone in Burma have one upside at least: they give you a chance not only to show how devoted you are to improving this “karma” thing Carson Daly’s always talking ...
