... be something to keep an eye on (if you have any interest in hockey, of course). The stable of writers looks pretty impressive, though I’m admittedly not familiar with most of them. There’s some discussion at Tango’s blog, who I know has done lots of work in hockey, though I’m not sure how much of it has been released to the public. By the way, here are a few of the other hockey analysis sites I know of: Hockey Analytics Hockey Numbers Hockeythink.com Surely, there are many more ….

These efforts are maturing, but I confess I don't really have a handle on any really memorable number/milestones like the ones above. Maybe some readers can pitch in. ...

Setting The Record Straight: Andrew Raycroft
Published 8/5/2008 by PPP at Mile High Hockey
... That wouldn't be so funny if he had actually just had one down year. However, courtesy of JavaGeek, here are a couple of graphs that illustrate just how bad the 2006-2007 season was for Andy. Remember, this was the year that he set the Leafs' record for wins in a season with 37 and it certainly helps to fight the argument that he sucked because the Leafs were terrible (they were but Raycroft's crappiness came independent of the Leafs'). ...

Who Needs a Loophole?
Published 7/17/2007 by Tom at Tom Benjamin's NHL Blog :: CanucksCorner.com
... . I'm curious as to your take on this. Chris Boersma I haven't read the Michael Farber article that Phil is referencing in his post, but this particular loophole shrinks significantly when two other facets of the CBA are considered. First, there is a maximum player salary and second, there is clause that limits pay cuts to 50%. (Teams can't pay a player $10 MM one year and $500,000 the next.) The extreme examples Phil uses to illustrate his issue would not be allowed. Within those limits, it is possible to play retirement games, but the league would come down hard on any team that sorted out a wink-wink-nudge-nudge arrangement using a long frontend loaded contract for an older player planning to retire before the contract expires. There is a no circumvention clause with real teeth. That said, what is a loophole, anyway? Generally speaking, I think we mean anything that permits big revenue teams to use their financial muscle to achieve a ...

Ducks Gameday—Row B, and the longest bloglist in U.S. history
Published 4/25/2007 by Earl Sleek at Battle of California
Round Two, Game One: (3) Vancouver Canucks at (2) Anaheim Ducks (JavaGeek odds : ANA 63% ) You might think that I d write something meaningful about this game, given that the 8 teams that won G1 in the first round went on to win the series, but how can I concentrate on that kind of nonsense when I ve got the Row B seats (playoff edition) tonight? It s pretty embarrassing, really, that a jerk like me has (very occasional) access to these seats, but I tell ya, there really are benefits to being a long-time supporter for one of the less respectable franchises during its formative Disney years. So, if you re at the game, or trying to spot me on TV, I ll be in my lucky green shirt drinking my stress away, probably to the point that everyone looks like a Sedin to me. ----------------------------------- So, is there anyone in the greater British Columbia area who is NOT writing a Canucks blog? Here s a quick rundow ...
