He threw 314 1/3 innings, completing 22 of his starts and picked up a save for good measure. The workhorse, who later threw a no hitter for the Royals, has been working steadily as a pitching coach. I bet he gets orders from the front office for strict pitch counts... and I bet that makes him roll his eyes. JEFF SUPPAN Jeff Suppan runs a restaurant called Soup's Sports Grill that is about ...

Jon Garland versus Braden Looper
Published 1/16/2009 by PHE at Pitchers Hit Eighth :: A St. Louis Cardinals blog
... career BABIP is .288.  Looper’s BABIP as a starter is .287. Short of comparing the amount of time they’ve spent starting, win-loss records (Garland had 18 win years for good Sox teams, Looper has pitched on a couple of struggling Cardinal teams), and age - these boys are almost identical pitchers. Where’s the difference? Well, for some reason, I had in my brain that Garland would come cheaper than Looper - I had Looper pegged for a Jeff Suppan-type deal, and surely Garland wouldn’t be more than $10mm per ...

(In fact, Killebrew's age 33 season was the best of his Hall of Fame career.) It's a dirty estimate, but you could probably expect Dunn to produce throughout the length of the above-market contract that it would take to get him to come to Pittsburgh. I look at this more for the starters and I look in the are of pitch count between 76-100. This is the critical area. This is the area where the starter has shown some signs of wearing down and the numbers back that up. Between pitches 51-75, opponents are only hitting .218 against us. From pitches 76-100 however, opponents are hitting .342. If pitch counts go over 100, that number falls down to .293. For Jeff Suppan and ...

... The second concept is called Substantial Historicity In Trajectory, which has no suitable acronym. Basically, what this measure does is try to find historically comparable pitchers---not just based on stats like similarity scores but also based on career path, including peaks and valleys. Here, IDOIT finds a guy like Jeff Suppan rather similar. Suppan received an initial opportunity, didn't take advantage of it, and had to build his way back up the ladder, if you'll pardon the mixed metaphor. On the other side of the mountain, Suppan emerged as a fairly reliable innings guy, and IDOIT sees something similar from Redding. ...
