Two Great Pitchers, Two Great Outings, Two Silly Errors
Published 4/12/2009 by Saul Sparber at Hot Foot
... Sunday afternoon’s contest between the New York Mets and the Florida Marlins was everything to be expected. Two of the National League’s premiere pitchers faced off in what turned into the most heated pitcher’s duel thusfar in the season. Prized ace Johan Santana pitched nothing short of a gem, surrendering only three hits over seven innings and striking out a head-turning 13 — Johan’s personal best since his 17 K outing with the Twins. ...

Homecoming

... That's not all folks. There is no more need to worry about MRI's or ruptured triceps tendons. In case you missed it, Johan Santana is officially on point. In 5 innings yesterday, Johan struck out 7 and allowed only 2 hits, one of which was a solo shot to left off the bat of Matt Diaz. He hit 93 on the gun a few times and located all his pitches extremely well through the first 4 frames. They stretched him out to 75 pitches and he seemed tired during the last 8 - 12 leaving the ball up a few times while topping out at 89 ...

... arms and long games in Miami this season! Rich: While the Phillies and Mets sport the two best pitchers in the division (if not the league), don't underestimate Atlanta's starters, especially if Kenshin Kawakami is as good as his breaking ball. Derek Lowe has been underrated for far too long and Javier Vazquez's outstanding peripherals are bound to result in a better ERA in the NL than the AL. Kevin: Johan Santana and Cole Hamels will fight it out for Cy Young ...

The Manny Strategy: Waiting for Desperation

... set it this off season after Johan Santana set it last year for pitchers. There's union pressure to get as many years for as much money per year as possible. Manny's agent, Scott Boras, is a huge force in this, obviously. Money isn't just on the line for him. He's got ego, pride, self-satisfaction, competitive hunger... You name it. Scott needs his satisfaction from the deal. You know he is pressuring Manny more than anyone because of what he wants, not necessarily what Manny wants. [image] Then there's Manny. What does he want? How much control does he have in this? ...

Early Injury Concerns
Published 2/10/2009 by dave.singer@gmail.com (Dave Singer) at NY Sports Dog
... Something to keep an eye on early in Spring Training are injuries. Several key Mets players are coming back from various ailments that could have a major impact on 2009. Johan Santana had surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his left knee in October. Considering that his left leg is his driving leg, there is absolutely some worry here. Santana had the injury for most of the year and still managed to pitch one of the greatest games in club history. Mets officials asked Johan ...

Johan Santana's Baseball-Reference page libeled
Published 1/14/2009 by Andrew Vazzano (noreply@blogger.com) at The 'Ropolitans | NY Mets Baseball Blog
Baseball-Reference is an amazing site. I use it daily to check stats and numbers on any player that I want. Even if he only played one season in the minor leagues in 1980, B-R is pretty much guaranteed to have his stats. On each players page, B-R allows fans or websites to "sponsor" the page. It helps them wrangle with server costs and whatnot. Well Johan Santana's page has a bit of "internet graffiti" on it. Ugh.

MINNESOTA TWINS - ALL TIME HOME GROWN TEAM vs. ALL TIME ACQUIRED TEAM

... but I just couldn't find room for him. Well here he is where he spent two seasons... only one of note. But he hit 29 homers and 93 RBI and homered twice in 1991 World Series. And why was the first Jamaican born player named Chili? Because he once had a terrible haircut as a kid and he was teased with the name "Chili Bowl." He shortened it to Chili. And I've ALWAYS loved that story! THE STARTING ROTATION JOHAN SANTANA Kudos to the Florida Marlins scouting department. They found an ...

Hilariously Sponsor A Baseball Reference Page Today!

... Me either. But the craziest thing totally just happened. For a few days, some of us here at Score Towers were talking about sponsoring player pages from Baseball-Reference.com, and the lo and behold, for the first time in quite a few days I surf over to one of my favourite sites, Tirico Suave, and what were they talking about but a week ago? The exact same thing! And they're not even alone! Phillies Nation, for example, has sponsored Johan Santana's page with the classy, "HAHAHAHAHA - The Mets are a joke!!!" ...

The pages for Bonds, Griffey, Pujols and even Johan Santana were spoken for (kudos to the clever folks at PhilliesNation.com regarding the last one ), so I thought of what other big names were out there, and I think I found just the right page: Tirico Suave Sponsors Rusty Kuntz Yessir, for the low, low cost of $10, we are now the proud sponsor of ...

In previous years the Twins have used the Rule 5 draft to grab guys like Ryan-Rowland Smith and Alejandro Machado.  Of course we know the Twins scored big with Johan Santana (in the long long ago of 2000), but thanks to Wikipedia, ...
