Fun Player Facts and Questions for 2009

Will Jose Reyes get his 1,000th hit on or before his 26th birthday? Jose Reyes, at age 25, needs 81 hits to 1,000 . There are 60 more games until he turns 26 on June 11th. Some quick math tells us that if he averages the same number of at-bats per game this year as last year, 4.33, and he plays in all 60 of those games, that he will get his 1,000th hit on or before his 26th birthday if he is hitting .312 or better. Has Carlos Beltran been here this long already? Carlos is currently 10th all-time in Met RBIs. With 120 this year he'll pass Edgaro Alfonzo, who is currently 5th. Of ...

Reyes Should Bat Third
Published 3/4/2009 by Joe DelGrippo at Dugout Central
... However, I have to respectfully disagree with him. Not with how Castillo should be used, because he should be a table setter, and not because Sherman believes with Castillo hitting in front of him, Jose Reyes could be a huge RBI man. Because I also believe that Reyes, with his 190+ hits over the last four seasons, including a career high 204 last season. Reyes can be a huge run producer. While his OBP has improved over the last couple years, it is still a subpar .336 for his career, not great for a leadoff hitter. ...

Brian Roberts Knows What’s Up

... bases per season at an 84% success rate over the past three seasons, compared to 26 per year at 74% during his first three full seasons in the majors. However, baserunning is just one part of Roberts’ skill, as he also does those really important things that form the basis of offensive production – drawing walks and hitting for power. Over the past five seasons, Roberts has averaged 60 extra-base hits and 72.8 walks a season. For the sake of comparison, the Mets’ celebrated shortstop, Jose Reyes, has averaged 61.5 extra-base hits and 55.75 walks a year since becoming a ...

NEW YORK METS - ALL TIME HOME GROWN TEAM vs. ALL TIME ACQUIRED TEAM

The A's announcers wondered if he would get credit for the shutout, which he did. I have never seen that before or since. And seeing this is Sully Baseball, I felt he was deserved a tip of the hat for that game! Good Morning Mets Fans!

Oh those old Mets!  25-year old Jose Reyes hit his major league leading 13th triple. 23-year old Daniel Murphy went 2 for 4 and drove in a run. 22-year old Nick Evans went 1 for 3, drove in 2 runs, and made a great stretch--possibly a game saving stretch--on a double play that was started by 25-year old Argenis Reyes, who flipped to 25-year old Jose Reyes, who fired to Nervous Nick. Of course, 24-year old Joe Smith induced the double play ball. And the Player of the Game? The Man of the ...

Jose Reyes Rocks The Bronx
Published 5/19/2008 by Dave Doyle at The Mets Report
Sometimes I wonder if it’s a curse that the Mets rely so heavily on Jose Reyes to generate offense for this team. He’s a tremendous offensive player. If you look at Baseball Reference , Reyes is most similar to Hall of Famer Joe Morgan at his age. Although you may dislike Morgan as a broadcaster, he was a dynamic player that had a long, successful career. Mets vs. Marlins March 31, 2008 Reyes battered the Yankees pitching this weekend. For the series he was 4 for 10, scored two runs, with a double and two home runs and four RBI’s. In the prior series against the Nationals Reyes ...

It's a Shame About Reyes

This is #2 of 5 Key Mets Players for the 2008 Season. It seems like a bit of a recurring theme for these Key Mets, but it's valid. After a great 2006 season, these players regressed in similar spots in 2007. Jose Reyes is a prime example of this. In 2006, Reyes seemed to have the Baseball World at his fingertips. The season he put together led all of us to believe that he would only get better and better as his career progressed. To go along with his .300 BA, Jose boasted a .354 OBA, 19 HRs, 64 steals and a whopping 81 RBI out of the ...
