Needless to say, Erik and I had a blast. What follows is a series of photos we snapped, with some commentary where I feel like offering it. ========== Jed Lowrie getting loose before the game. ---------- Josh Beckett started the game for the Sox. ---------- ...

... Rich Lederer at Baseball Analysts has added the variable of walks to his categorization of pitchers by strikeout and groundball rates.    When walks are added to the equation, both John Lackey and Ervin Santana move up the ranking list.  As Lederer points out, the results show that Lackey is similar to Roy Oswalt and Santana to Josh Beckett.  Not bad company. ...

... PINCH HITTER OFF OF BENCH BILLY McMILLON With no DH in the NL, I am going to list the top pinch hitter in the DH slot. McMillon played part of 2 seasons with the Marlins. He batted .188 over those 2 seasons. He never homered. He drove in 5 runs. He struck out 21 times in 69 official at bats. Folks, I’m not kidding. The Marlins don’t have a great tradition of home grown stars. THE STARTING ROTATION JOSH BECKETT By far the biggest star the Marlins have put on the mound, Beckett was the stud of the 2003 ...

ALCS Game 2 Open Thread
Published 10/12/2008 by houstoncardinal at Viva El Birdos
It's a matchup of 2 houston area high school phenoms in tonight's game as Josh Beckett goes up against Scott Kazmir. The Rays absolutely must win this game lest they go back to Boston down 0-2. If they find themselves in that situation, Tampa's seen their last playoff game for at least a year. God knows what'll happen tonight. Should be a great pitching matchup but Boston has beaten up Kazmir this year -- 18 ER in 18 IP. Beckett's been quite good vs. TB this year (2.07 ERA) but the Rays have seen him 5 times already. If they don't hit him tonight, it won't ...

The silver lining is that we’ll probably see the Red Sox celebrate a playoff berth in front of 40,000 fans at their house, and it’s likely to happen tonight against a floundering Cleveland Indians squad.  Why will it happen tonight?  Tonight’s pitching matchup: Josh Beckett vs. Zach Jackson Since coming back from injury, Beckett has been ...

Josh Beckett (3-2, 4.19) vs. Justin Verlander (1-5, 6.28) I joked about saying this last night, so jeer me if you must, but could that walk-off win have given the Tigers a much-needed kick in the pants?  Or was it just a speed bump against the semi-truck that might be the Boston Red Sox?  Regardless of what happens tonight, I won't mind seeing Kevin Youkilis and Mike Lowell leave town after what they've done to Detroit pitching in this series.  (Yes, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez have been good, ...

... out: One thing I d like to see is the same sort of win vs $ comparison on the Beckett / Hanley Ramirez trade for the Red Sox. I wonder if that sort of analysis would yield a horrible trade for Boston. Ramirez is one of those prospects that really did pan out as hoped for. Do you think the Red Sox regret having Beckett because Ramirez is so good? Let's leave aside, for a moment, the fact that other players were involved in the deal, such as Lowell and Sanchez.
