National League East Division Preview (Featuring Kevin Kernan)

I am unsure as to who the best left fielder in the division is, but I do not think that one of Raul Ibanez, Cody Ross or Josh Willingham should be the best at their position in any division! So, Are the Nats Better Off?
Published 1/30/2009 by Nats News Network at Federal Baseball
... repsonse thereto, I thought a look at the numbers instead of assuming the Nats were better off now than they were at the end of last season was in order.  The question is simply this:  If they don't make another major league acquisition, did the Nats make themselves better over the off-season?  Looking at the numbers, it's hard to argue that the Nats upgraded over the winter with their three acquisitions. Josh Willingham essentially returns Willie Harris to a utility ...

... Cubs fans can only dream of. STARTING THIRD BASEMAN MIGUEL CABRERA Without a doubt the best hitter the Marlins system has ever produced. He exploded in the 2003 playoffs, became the Marlins perennial MVP candidate and biggest star before being shipped off to Detroit where he gained weight faster than Yaphet Kotto at the end of Live and Let Die. He’s only 26! STARTING LEFT FIELDER JOSH WILLINGHAM He’s put up 3 solid seasons with the Marlins where he had some decent ...

... least valuable of the three. In the minors, Gonzalez walked too little and struck out too much. He appears to be a good-enough defender to play center field, and he’s young. Smith is on a path to be a back-of-the-rotation starter. Gonzalez and Smith could blossom into much better players or wash out of the league within a few years. The trade appears to be good match for both teams, which is no surprised to this economist. — The Nationals acquired Josh Willingham and Scott Olsen from the Marlins for Emilio Bonifacio, Jake ...

... Elswhere in baseball, the Nationals and Marlins swapped a few players. Washington sent Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham to Florida for Emilio Bonifacio, Jake Smolinksi, and P.J. Dean. I don’t have a big rundown of this one, but here are the details from MLBTR, and you can click on any of the players’ names for their baseball-reference pages (except Dean, who apparently doesn’t exist at B-R yet). Florida and Washington Two Step: Trade of Bonifacio Posted on Nov. 11, 2008 at 9:00 AM There is a little bit of Spring in November; well, not if you are outside, but if you are inside reading your Nats news, the news of the Marlins and Nationals trade has some of us thinking about spring training. On Monday night, the Nationals traded newly acquired second basemen Emilio Bonifacio and minor leaguers P.J. Dean and Jake Smolinski to the Florida Marlins for left fielder Josh Willingham and starting pitcher Scott Olsen . Confused? Yeah me to, here are my ...

Red Sox And Marlins Talking Manny
Published 7/30/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Travis) at Around The Bases: A Boston Red Sox Blog
The Boston Red Sox and Florida Marlins are in serious discussions tonight on a deal that would send Manny Ramirez and a boatload of cash to the Marlins in exchange for three players. Boston would likely get either Josh Willingham or Jeremy Hermida along with two other players, in exchange Boston likely would pay the remaining balance of Manny's 2008 contract. Under that scenario this would appear to be a legit discussion on Florida's part as they have shown in the past to go for it all and then come back the following year with a sub par roster. ...

2007 Florida Marlins Year in Review

... Left Field: Josh Willingham - Josh Willingham is the silent assassin. He goes about his business year in and year out and puts up quality numbers without all the glitz and glamour. Despite battling nagging back pains all season long, The Hammah came up just shy of reaching 100 RBI’s for the first time in his career. He quietly played a spectacular left field and improved greatly from last season. The one thing Hammah struggled with all season long was hitting left handed pitching. If Josh can stay healthy next season and work on hitting lefties, he will reach that 100 RBI mark. 2008 OUTLOOK - Look for Hammah to be back in left field shagging fly balls and batting somewhere in the 5th or 6th spot in the lineup. ...
