Enough with A-Rod!

... And before I go, a stunning development: Kei Igawa looks like a decent pitcher! The Japanese lefty sports a 0.73 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 12.1 innings. But his eight walks and level of competition leave me a Doubting Thomas as to whether this will translate to the regular season. ...

Not O-Kei

... in which he didn't strike out or walk a batter: "The plan is for him to start again in five days. But sometimes -- I mean, that's the plan. I'll sit down and watch the tape and take a better look at (last night). But he's not pitching like he's capable of he's pitching." That about sums it up. George King says it's clear Igawa is not a major league pitcher. The Yanks have to know they'll never see a full return on their investment in Igawa, writes Pete Caldera . The stats are ugly : A career ERA+ of 66 (a total of 67.2 IP), a career WHIP of 1.76, a career ...

... Kei Igawa (0-0, -.--) vs. Kenny Rogers (2-3, 6.27) Well, this doesn't quite have that same "Clash of American League Titans" feel to it that we may have imagined when the 2008 schedule was released, does it?  And would you have ever thought that you might be relieved to see the New York Yankees come to town?  Cue up Tim Kurkjian and his stand-by  "That's the beauty of baseball; you never know what's going to happen" explanation for everything. Kenny Rogers has pitched pretty well in his last two starts, ...

In Which The Meek Inherit... A 12.00 ERA: Dodgers 11, Pirates 2

... 31, 1991 against the Mets that a Dodger reliever came up with a win while pitching five or more innings. It's not that unusual throughout baseball, though, as there were three instances last year: Mark Redman did it on September 12 for the Rockies against the Phillies after starter Denny Bautista only lasted two frames. Shawn Chacon of the Pirates notched a win on May 17 following starter Tony Armas' failure to get past three. 14-appearance pitcher Kei Igawa of the Yankees beat the Red Sox April 28 for one of his only two major league ...

Igawa's revised history

... Yankee GM Brian Cashman's acquisition of Kei Igawa to bolster the Bomber's rotation last season didn't work out. It was a 46-million dollar error, oh well nobodies perfect. MLB.com, in an article titled: "Igawa eyeing '08 rebound" has an interesting recollection of the transaction: "The Yankees 46 million dollar investment in the 28 year-old was cautioned as a long-term project in Cashman's eyes last year...But even given that warning, the returns were underwhelming." Here's what Brian Cashman told YES about Igawa at the time: "We think he can be a successful ...

Game 96 - Open Thread
Published 7/21/2007 at Rays of Light
... - The Rays have not announced who they will use in the first game of the day-night doubleheader against the Yankees. Rays manager Joe Maddon hinted strongly that Hammel could be the guy to get the start, but using him would be contingent upon what happens in Edwin Jackson's start on Friday night. The other likely candidates are right-hander Jae Kuk Ryu, who was called up from Triple-A Durham after Thursday's game. Kei Igawa - Igawa wasn't particularly consistent on Monday night against the Jays, but the outing was good enough for the lefty to record a no-decision for his five innings at Yankee Stadium. Toronto's Troy Glaus and Vernon Wells both hit homers off Igawa in the second and third innings, respectively, as he gave up three runs off seven hits on the night. Igawa bested his previous career high of six strikeouts from April 28 against Boston by fanning seven, but he also ended up walking four and balking once in h ...

Rays Win!
Published 4/24/2007 by Dan Agonistes at Dan Agonistes
... The game was of course interesting as well as the Devil Rays jumped all over Kei Igawa who simply didn't look sharp. His fastball topped out at 90mph and he was throwing his changeup alot which comes in around 80 as well as a slider in the low 80s. In any case his location wasn't good as he walked three and gave up eight hits and seven runs in four and third innings going 97 pitches. Roco Baldelli and B.J. Upton both homered off of Igawa. Baldelli's was a long blast to left center in the first and Upton was a line drive that actually hit the left field foul pole just a couple feet above the low fence line at the 315 foot mark. Since the ball ricocheted to the foul side it wasn't immediately obvious it was a homerun. ...
