A Few Moments With a Mets Fan

... A)I watch or listen to 80 percent of the games. However, the ones that I miss I stay on top of by reading the box scores and game reports on a great website called Mets Geek. Also, I have a very bizarre ritual of waking up very early every Wednesday and scouring Mets player stats to see how they have played over the last week. Yahoo Sports makes this very easy to do. ...

THE NEW YORK METS: INVENTING WAYS TO LOSE SINCE 1962
Published 6/6/2008 by kranepool at Kranepool Society :: A New York Mets Blog
... I have no clue if any of the players the Mets drafted will become anything but so far I haven’t read any place that the Mets draft sucked so that’s a good thing. There was a pattern of college hitters and it looks like 1B Ike Davis (a baseball name if ever there was one) and shortstop (2nd baseman or catcher) Reese Havens will be fast tracked in through the system. For a better read on the draftees check out MetsGeek. I’m sure most of these picks will be headed to Coney Island so then I’ll be able to see them up close and personal. ...
Game 53 - Rangers vs. Rays
Published 5/28/2008 by Jessica at HER RAYS!
... Just look at that shit eatin grin. He wasn’t scared of no stinkin Rangers. He went out there and got his team a series win, because he is the man. The man with lots of spit that’s stringy like spiderman’s webs. He pitched eight innings and only gave up two runs. Which is much easier to handle than say like TWELVE runs. Too bad he wasn’t on TV so everyone could appreciate his badassness.
Rays win. Texas 3 - Tampa 5! I can totally see why those Mets fans want to join the party.

... So we decided to have some fun over at MetsGeek by rechristening the site "RaysGeek" in celebration of our favorite Floridian franchise. I dummied up a new banner and Alex wrote a nice message welcoming everyone to the new site. We found the whole thing pretty amusing, and figured the change of scenery would bring some levity to an otherwise morose situation. Most folks, especially the MG regulars, got the gag and enjoyed it. I guess fittingly, the little gag netted MG one of its biggest traffic days ever. ...

When you’re in an abusive relationship, where you are constantly making excuses for your other half, and how much you love them unconditionally, even though they keep breaking your heart, its tough to admit you’re wrong.
Well no more, check out the new banner at Mets Geek…
I’m not yet ready to convert, but you’re really testing my patience, Metropolitans. Those Rays are playing some inspired baseball.

Most Absurd Moments of the Week

Hey everyone! Milo Taibi here- Studio Audience: “The Milo Taibi who writes for Endscore.com , Metsgeek.com and Metsmerizedonline.com ?” Me: The very one! Anywho, I’m doing a new weekly column here at AtTheDish about the most absurd baseball related moments of the week. Read on to find out what moments during this week made me do a doubletake (and presumably scratch my head in a perplexed manner). The Pirates Releasing Matt Morris: I’m not sure that releasing Morris was absurd in itself, but the entire duration of Morris’ career as a Pittsburgh Pirate certainly was. WHY DID PIRATES GM DAVID ...

... and Mets Geek . Read on to see what Eric, Pizza, and Jessica have to say about Kosuke Fukudome, umpiring, and the role of luck in the game of baseball. Question #1: One thing that has been an important discovery of the sabermetric movement is the role that luck plays in baseball, both for individual players (BABIPs that are out of line with batted-ball data) and for teams (discrepancies between actual and Pythagorean winning percentage that can’t entirely be explained by bullpen performance). Yet this concept is one that many less sabermetrically-oriented followers of ...
Five Questions with Jessica Bader of Take the 7 Train

... No Reds bloggers returned my emails in time to get a 5 questions post up for last series...maybe that's why we didn't win it. I hope that's how it's going to work, because here we go with some Mets talk. Our lucky guest is Jessica Bader, who writes for Take the 7 Train and MetsGeek.
First things first: How do you feel about the Johan Santana trade?
In particular, were there any pieces Minaya included in the deal who
you think the Mets will come to regret giving up?
I spent much of the offseason highly fed up with the Santana ...
