... WEBB Most of the people on this list have unreached potential. Not Webb. He’s a legit ace with a Cy Young to his credit and a pair of second place finishes. He had three straight complete game shutouts in 2007 and rolled to 42 1/3 straight scoreless innings. Don’t look now, but he’s starting to put together a Hall of Fame resume. Oh I know it is early, but you can’t start better than Webb! MICAH OWINGS OK, back to “lots of potential” players. Owings is only 25 and already has a pair of big league seasons and a playoff ...

Micah Owings In Context
Published 5/9/2008 by Christian Ruzich at The Cub Reporter (TCR) | A Chicago Cubs Blog
The Cubs catch a break this weekend, as the Diamondbacks come through town and the Cubs don't have to face two of their best pitchers. Brandon Webb pitched last night, and with all due respect to today's starter Danny Haren, the Cubs have to be happy to miss Micah Owings as well.   Even though Owings isn't pitching, though, we still might see him in the series. He's gotten quite a bit of press this year, but unlike Webb it's mostly been for his bat. Last week against the Astros, he hit a home run. To the opposite field. As a pinch hitter. ...

... and the pitcher 8th. Well, D-Backs manager Bob Melvin is going a step further. Pitcher Micah Owings mashes so well, Melvin might bat him 7th during his starts. 7th! For a pitcher! It’s safe to say I’ve never herd of that in my lifetime. You really can’t blame him though, check out the numbers . This guy does mash. How about having a pitcher in 60 at bats collect: 20 hits (.333 avg), 4 homers, 15 RBIs, and 7 doubles! Hell, screw 7th. In that lineup I’d bat him cleanup.

MLB Season in Review: 2007 National League Awards

... Webb posted an NL-low 3.35 while Peavy finished at 3.46. However, Webb didn't beat Peavy in every Sabermetric statistic. In fact, Webb trailed Peavy in both "Win" stats, scoring a 66.1 to Peavy's 77.0 in VORP and a 17 to Peavy's 18 in WSAB—although this number is slightly misleading in the National League, as it gives credit towards a pitchers' hitting ability. With the proper adjustment, Webb is worth 2.4 more pitching wins than Peavy. This is where opinion takes over. The Cy Young Award is not, ...

... . But with the bats the Rockies have, a slight edge may not be enough. I like the Rockies. But I'm hoping to be proven wrong again. I'm not a D-Backs fan, but I do live in Arizona and if they win and the Red Sox win I could actually be at Game 4 when the Red Sox sweep the series. Let's just hope I'm not wrong about everything. Prediction: Rockies in 6 games. Bold Prediction: I'm going back to Micah Owings on this one. I say he becomes the first player to ever hit for the cycle in a World Series game.

... Micah Owings - Owings had the finest game of his pro career and possibly of his life on Saturday against the Braves. The right-hander allowed three runs over seven innings to pick up his first win since June 20. But the most impressive part of his performance came at the plate, where he went 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, four runs scored and six RBIs. He became the first pitcher to homer twice in a game since Florida's Dontrelle Willis did so on Sept. 20, 2006, and Owings' six RBIs were the most by a pitcher since Philadelphia's Robert Person knocked in seven on June 2, 2002. ...

Despite the Rockies' first-inning barrage, which saw them hit back-to-back home runs, Shields kept his composure and retired 14 consecutive batters after the second of the consecutive long balls. Micah Owings - Owings has gotten no-decisions in his past two starts, but very easily could have gotten wins in both. He allowed just three runs over six innings to the Orioles at Camden Yards his last time out, but had departed the game by the time Arizona rallied for a 7-3 win. In his start before that, the right-hander turned a 3-2 lead over the Red Sox at Chase Field to the bullpen, but the 'pen couldn't not hold it.
