Strange that the Astros picked 2 high school catchers, Ralph Henriquez and Max Sapp in the first 2 rounds and neither one was able to hit a lick even in the rookie league/low minors. ... Just last spring Vineyard was ranked #14 on the Mets top 20 prospect list and was referred to as an example that the Mets farm system wasn't completely depleted by the Santana trade. In two starts for the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2008 he was 0-2 ( 8 innings) with an ERA of 14.63 and batters were hitting .382. ... John Sickels, well known in the prospect community for his prospect handbooks, also writes a blog. A few weeks ago, he focused on a former Valley Leaguer, Kevin Kouzmanoff (Winchester 02). Sickels covers each year Kouz spent in the minors- it makes for a good read. Sickels thinks that if Kouz can regain some plate discipline, that he might have a career year in 2009. Let's hope so!
