Yankees' "Hint of Genius"

... Hawkins’ 1-2-3 sixth inning lowered his E.R.A. to 5.86." Brian Cashman's monster off season acquisition is on the block, shortly after Morgan Ensberg hit the bricks. Give Cash credit he's learning. He's never heard the end of the Igawa debacle because the albatross still lingers in the organization. By "aggressively shopping" (read dumping) another mistake he can pick up some marginal prospect and pretend he's building for the future. Come to think of it, the fact that Cashman is allegedly on the verge of signing a contract ...

3rd Base Re-Visited Once Again

... he's much better then he hit in 2007. For 2008 we need a real solution not a stop gap. Nomar will not be healthy. LaRoche could easily have problems with that thumb all year long. Abreu even if healthy couldn't possibly hit enough for us to carry him as a regular 3rd baseman. DeWitt simply is not ready. Hu could be the guy but again I don't think he will hit enough and I think he will be needed at 2nd base quite a bit this year since Abreu doesn't seem up to it. Cheap Solutions: Morgan Ensberg - He made the Yankee roster but his hold is tenous. Shouldn't take much to acquire ...

... this guy's first name and frankly, I'm scared to try. New manager John Russell has no major league experience and is somewhat anonymous. One of the most lifeless ballparks I've ever been to. That's what you get when you win only 15 home games per year. Predictions: 74 wins, 1 lonely All-Star representative, and fifteen more years of futility. 4. Houston Astros The Good: They shed some dead weight. Hunter Pence, Lance Berkman, Carlos Lee, and Miguel Tejada ...

ANOTHER First Baseman?!

... The Yanks have completed another mini-signing, this time for 3rd baseman Morgan Ensberg. I refer to it as a "mini" signing because it is just a 1-year deal and with A-Rod at 3rd base he obviously won't be getting much starting time over in that corner. In fact, he will most likely spend most of his limited playing time as part of the platoonity over at 1st base. It's not a bad deal for the Yanks (although at this point I'm unsure about how much they're paying the fellow) - he doesn't have a strong average (.265 lifetime) or OBP (.366 lifetime), but he's got at least a little bit ...

MORGAN ENSBERG, INF STATS Jerry Crasnick has the skinny: Free-agent infielder Morgan Ensberg has reached agreement on a one-year contract with the New York Yankees, and will join the competition for the team’s first base job in spring training. “I’m extremely excited about it,” Ensberg said Thursday. “It’s a great team and a great lineup. Most importantly, it’s a team that’s consistently playing for a World Series. After you’ve been ...

... A difficult choice, the third baseman. There has been little to choose from in the ranks of my hometown Astros--call it the superstar void: the stifling vacuum in place without the single marble-carved icon to occupy The Position, the vaguely outlined piece of real estate in the general vicinity of a Base. There were promising entries--Morgan Ensberg had one fine year but then his tendencies towards the tentative took over. ...

Blalock's bum shoulder knocks him off trading block

(Apologies, but I cannot find this link now!) Ensberg, a career Astro who put up great numbers in 2003, 2004 and 2005 has slumped of late, and ...
