Walkoff Walk Presents the BONILLA Projection System: Age 32

AL Central SWOT

... Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen combine to constitute a dependable outfield. Ordonez is a prolific slugger, Guillen consistent and Granderson has emerged as one of the game's best all around players. Weaknesses: Somehow this pitching staff just won't come together. Justin Verlander and Jeremy Bonderman were both great disappointments in 2008 and finally, Kenny Rogers just sucked. Nate Robertson's 6.38 ERA (70 ERA+) didn't help. Opportunities: ...

FLORIDA MARLINS - ALL TIME HOME GROWN TEAM vs. ALL TIME ACQUIRED TEAM

... Mattingly’s luck in terms of World Series appearances as he played for the Marlins from 1998 to 2002, missing both the 1997 and 2003 title teams. He has 2 career saves. JOSH JOHNSON OK, I’m reaching here. Johnson was primarily a starter (one of the ones Girardi drove into the ground) but he came out of the bullpen 10 times in the past 4 years and has only 1 fewer save than Logan Kensing. NATE ROBERTSON Alright, fine. I am REALLY stretching here. But I had to acknowledge ...

Pondering On Robertson's Future With The Tigers

... Robertson acknowledged to reporters that his offseason plans will have to accommodate some kind of adjustment to his mechanics, pitching repertoire, or workout regimen. The slider is his signature pitch, but it hasn't been as effective this year, causing his ERA to hover around 6.04, the highest its been since his rookie season with Florida. ...

Valuing Nate Robertson
Published 1/16/2008 by JC at Sabernomics
I was sort of surprised to see the Detroit Tigers locking up Nate Robertson for three years and $21.25 million. While I normally like buying out free agent years, I don’t think this was a good move. The Tigers bought out only one year for not much of a discount. As a free agent, I have him valued at $30 million over the next three years. But the Tigers would have gotten him for about what they will pay him during his arbitration years—$4.5 (2008) and $7 million (2009)—without much risk. If he has a phenomenal year in 2008 it’s possible ...

Tigers shore up starting rotation

... after 2009. Dontrelle Willis, whom the Tigers traded for in earl December at MLB's Winter Meetings, signed a three-year, $29 million dollar extension a few weeks after being acquired. The Tigers also re-signed free agent lefty Kenny Rogers, who's pitched for the Tigers the past two seasons. His deal is one-year for $8 million dollars. The Tigers' starting rotation should look like this: 1) Justin Verlander 2) Jeremy Bonderman 3) Rogers 4) Willis 5) Robertson

... and the first year of his free agency for $21 million. Nate's not a great pitcher , but he's not a terrible one either. On a high scoring team, he can hold down a back of the rotation slot just fine. That looks like the Tigers for this year. And because Detroit now has Nate's cost under control, it makes him easier to trade to if they come across a deal where that makes sense.

Tiger Arbitration Update
Published 12/12/2007 by Eric Jackson at D-Town Baseball
Tonight is the deadline for the Tigers to tender contracts to arbitration eligable players. This morning they had seven players eligable for arbitration: Tim Byrdak, Miguel Cabrera, Chad Durbin, Nate Robertson, Bobby Seay, Marcus Thames and Dontrelle Willis. Hasn’t been much movement up to this point on the key players but two moves were made: Tigers avoided arbitration by signing Tim Byrdak to a one-year $712,500 dollar contract. He’ll be used as a LOOGY out of the bullpen again this year and I hope ...

Game 112 - Open Thread

... - Hammel's early departure from Wednesday's game isn't expected to hamper this start. Shoulder tightness grabbed him in his right arm at the beginning of the fourth inning, and he left immediately afterward, having thrown just 54 pitches. He was tagged for two earned runs on three hits while he was in there, walking two and fanning one. It was a disappointment for Hammel, who was making his third start since joining the rotation and was finally stretched out enough to go deep into the game. Nate Robertson - Robertson has three losses in as many starts since tossing seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 victory over the Twins on July 17. He threw a quality start in his latest outing to keep the Tigers in a low-scoring game, but a Mark Ellis solo homer ended up being the difference. Robertson gave up four runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings in a loss at Tampa Bay on May 30. View the Rays career numbers vs. Nate Robertson - ...
