For those of you lucky college kids home for the summer with nothing to do, or if you're just bored at work, the Bulls take on the Miami Heat in about 10 minutes in the Orlando Summer Leage. Michael Beasley is out of the game, virtually removing any interesting storyline but for the diehards, this game is a must-see. ...

NBA : Today's warnings : 17 June 2008
Published 21 days ago by mookie (noreply@blogger.com) at a stern warning
"Game after game, Celtics fans across Boston face the same, painful decision: basketball or bedtime?" This is the question asked by fans on the East coast who struggle to stay awake for West coast games which push past the midnight barrier. The NBA's response is that the kids know how to use The Internets and that they will find a way to watch it, even if they do have to go to sleep, through YouTube and nba.com. All I can say is, they should try watching from London, England, where start times are usually 1:50am. Apparently still-President G W Bush is no ...

Linkage - April 29
Published 4/29/2008 by Scott at The AltRaps Blog
In a season where there was far too much give-up in the Raptors at times, this basketball team refused to go down without a fight. And while that may sound trite, it is a step in the right direction for a team whose biggest deficiency all season has been toughness whether it be mental or physical. "We knew coming into this series that we needed to score points," Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell said. "We weren’t going to hold this team to 70 or 80 points because they’ve got so many weapons. We just didn’t score enough." On top of not scoring, the Raptors didn’t seem to have an answer for the dribble ...

Toronto Raptors: This is from Basketbawful reader Colin. "Pretty sure you are going to put them there, but after what I saw tonight I just wanted to make sure. The Toronto Raptors. (I'm a Raptors fan, hurts to say this.) Not only were they the FIRST team to be eliminated from the playoffs this season, but the ATLANTA HAWKS have done better than them in their series against a BETTER TEAM than the Raptors lost to. Thats not right." Well, it's hard to fault the Raptors too much, because they clearly lost to a suprior team. However, I can't help but wonder ...

Lakers guard Kobe Bryant leads the top 10 list as the most popular NBA player page on NBA.com, with more than 2.5 million page views received to date, marking the second straight season his player page has been the most viewed. Lakers trade acquisition Pau Gasol currently leads all international players with more than 1.3 million page views, and the Lakers are leading all NBA team Web sites with nearly 50 million page views to date. Sports Leagues Spent Over $2.6M on Lobbying in 2007
Published 3/26/2008 by derrick eckardt at RotoNation - Fantasy Sports News, Notes, Jobs, Games, Tools
Lobbying, a Washington DC institution, is no stranger to the professional sports leagues of America. Last year, the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, et al, spent in excess of $2.6M having their agendas heard on Capitol Hill. Some of the lobbying is focused on keeping the UIGEA in place, but that is not all. MLB is trying to make it harder to acquire Human Growth Hormone (HGH), while the NFL and the NHL have also argued against the need for a federally mandated drug testing program.
Bad Call? I Think Not…

Kobe Bryant against Golden State Warriors In last nights game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors there was plenty of complaining from both sides. The Warriors stole the first game of the home and home set on Sunday at the Staples Center and the Lakers were prepared to battle in Oakland last night. The Warriors came out strong, again, took an 11 point lead at halftime, and again, managed to blow the lead in the 3rd quarter. Warriors fans have decided that this game was decided by a last second negotiable call by referee Bob Delaney . For the second night in a row, a great ...
Down The Stretch They Come . . .
Published 3/24/2008 by PotsNPans at Poor Sports: Bitter Philly Sports Fans Sound Off
Its late March and College Basketball is getting almost all of the attention (nice work 'Nova, you've earned a date with the #1 seed Jayhawks later this week). Don't forget about those Sixers, though. They're currently tied for 6th place with the Raptors. They're 8 - 2 in their last 10 and are facing a tough task in the Celtics tonight. The Sixers need to find a way to beat their division rivals. They've played some close games through 3 quarters with the C's this year, but the games have all ended with a 4th quarter Sixers collapse. There's no margin for error for the Sixers now. They've got 12 more games to ...

…or at least leave you alone while you watch the game! Alright, there is more than one way to get your non-sports-loving partner to lighten up and at least tolerate your obsession with March Madness, NFL Football, Soccer, or whatever your passion is. I even once dated a guy that would rather watch a romantic comedy than sports so I know where you’re coming from. Sure, he was fine if I took him to a game but watching it on television was a whole other battle. Fortunately, I’m now married to a wonderful guy that is an avid fan like me. In fact, I met him at a ...

At times the American sports culture seems dominated by too much negativity, inflated hype or invigorating greed. Whether it is the media's relentless gotcha style of journalism, ESPN's Disney based corporate agenda, or sports fans continually bled of paychecks to support billionaires' rising prices, many can be left to wonder where the bright stories are in sports. Further disheartening is only teams that win it all are considered successful and the rest are labeled losers or worst, chokers. It makes me wonder why I follow sports so intently and passionately when the most toxic aspects ...
