CK is checking out a possible future life in upstate New York after college graduation this spring. So far, he hasn't been spotted by vigilant Sabres fans, thanks to a red cloaking device on loan from Capital Spirit (Thanks, Spirit! One game in civvies won't hurt you.) TillyCapsFan here to take this sporty little blog out for a spin. Let's see. What's in the glove compartment? Japer's Rink, Peerless Prognosticator, Capitals Insider, On Frozen Blog. Bolts Beyotch-Slapped By the Southeast Division
Published 3/22/2009 at MVN RSS
The Southeastern division isn't known as one of the power divisions in the NHL, but don't tell that to the Tampa Bay Lightning, as the Bolts spent the weekend getting slapped around by division leader Washington and doormat Atlanta. The ironic thing about the Bolts loss to Washington on Friday night, a 5-2 barnburner, wasn't the fact that they were again owned by the Caps. The Bolts were in an uproar over the antics by Caps phenom Alex Ovechkin. Alexander the Great scored his 50th of the season and did a hockey version of a touchdown dance, mimicking a "too hot to handle" hockey stick. Here ...

Alexander Ovechkin scored his 50th goal of the 2008-2009 season on March 19.   Ovechkin, who leads the National Hockey League in goals, is favored by many fans as the most impactful and exciting player in the league. Ovechkin celebrated his 50th goal by dropping his stick and when attempting to pick it up, pretended it was too hot to touch! Click here to view the embedded video. [Video thanks to On Frozen Blog] Too Much Celebration? I wonder what Don Cherry, who criticized Ovechkin on the February 28th edition of ...

... We'll get the game chat going here soon, for those who want to chat during the game (4 p.m. start in the West). For now, you can check out a real nice blog that I've become familiar with. On Frozen Blog is about the Washington Capitals, and it's run by three folks who do a really nice job of covering the team, even though they're not professional journalists. In the interest of full disclosure, one of the guys, Mike, is a friend of one of my closest friends, and I got to meet him over the weekend, but I'd have praise for them even if that wasn't the case. Capitals-Islanders matinee: Two injured clubs meet
Published 1/19/2009 by Dominik at Lighthouse Hockey
(Teaser: there is a video at the end of this post you probably don't want to miss.) We've whined about it all season for this shallow-depth club, but here's your official cover for futility, courtesy of James Mirtle at From the Rink: The Islanders are by his count the most injured club this season, with 276 man-games lost and counting. The problem with the whole "excuses are for horses and hand grenades" thing? (Wait...something's amiss there.) The Capitals are third on the list, with 231. It's a sign of their depth that the Caps have done so much better, with injuries to roles ...

Due to certain dinner commitments, I was only able to see the first and third periods (as much as I begged, Beloved wouldn't allow me to wheel our hosts' television into their formal dining room. Something about "rude" and "idiot"), but judging from the excellent game recap supplied by The Artist Formally Known As Sherry, 'tis probably better that way. Alex Picard has already cost me five stress balls, two remotes and one neighbour so far this season. The Highs I actually saw: Stop that! Stop that! You're not going to do a song while I'm 'ere: ...

A source of frustration....OY!!!! Needless to say the third Ducks goal was questionable but the Devils had their chances. That and the defense was just not that good again. Memo to Colin White and Paul Martin....please do try and play tomorrow night in Vancouver. That was bad! In the end, the Ducks held on to win 4-3 and as a result I will have no hair after tonight....I kid you not!!!!!! Sunday Smorgasbord 1-4
Published 1/5/2009 by Caps Nut (noreply@blogger.com) at Bleatings From a Caps Nut
All four home teams in the NFL Playoffs this weekend were underdogs and two of them still won. It goes to show just how much Vegas knows but is also a clear indication that the NFL has pretty much achieved the parity that it longs for. Oddly enough, it was the six seeds Bhawlmuher and Philly that lived up to the expectations and now face the number one seeds next weekend. However, all four home teams are the favorites and don't expect all four to win next weekend either. And speaking of playoffs, if it is the New Year, it must be time for the "unbiased" media to once again complain about the College Bowl ...
