Hunting Season open…
Published 22 days ago by Magnusson at Olympique Marseille
The only thing we can get out of the snoozefest that was this Sunday’s game is that France now has a championship that it can be proud of. With three heavyweights (Marseille, Bordeaux and Paris) in three big markets and a solid fourth (Rennes), the Ligue 1 is becoming interesting again and this has not been the case for quite some time now. People have even started calling it the Big FOUR as in the premiership. Now we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves since Lyon is still on top but it has to be a first in years that the Rhodanians played like they did ...

Ronaldo Turns Down €100,000 per Goal Comeback Deal
Published 11/6/2008 by Daryl at The Offside
... (read: “ker-ching-a-ling-a-ling”) and says PSG have been winking at him too. But appearing on TV Globo in Brazil this week Ronaldo suggested that his time Europe might be over. There’s been some Ronaldo-to-MLS talk too, which might be a good idea marketing wise. But how would Ronaldo’s knees hold up on the numerous artificial surfaces? Not well, is my guess. The man is 32 years old now. With injuries and all he’s not going to be a key player on a big European team again, and doesn’t seem keen to play for a mid-table team, whatever sort of money’s on the table (see above). So ...

Google Translate: Paris Saint Germain to German

I have to give some credit to Google, for not just collecting more and more sensitive data about us, but also making better and better tools. For its’ German language users seeking a French to German translation, Google Translate even tries to find a Bundesliga counterpart of the French club in question. In this case Schalke’s UEFA Cup opponent Paris Saint-Germain (3-1). So according to Google the good news for Schalke fans is, that they won a derby. The bad news is, that it wasn’t against a particularly ...

PSG Now A Retirement Home
Published 7/21/2008 by Corey at France Football
... PSG has just announced another exciting (depends on where you fit in the Ligue 1 scheme) signing, with the addition of Claude Makelele from Chelsea. At 35, he certainly is not getting any younger, but he has signed a 5, yes 5 year deal with PSG, which will intially see him on a 2 year playing contract with a 3 year management contract, as an ambassador to the community yadda yadda yadda. But their is an option for a 3 year, the could apply if Makelele and the management think he is either still in shape to play or not ready to join the front office yet (excuses excuses). ...

Silly, silly, silly month is over.

... 3rd, 2008 Whilst the EPL has splashed £150M (that’s £7,5M per club, and since Man U and Arsenal didn’t spend a penny, £8,3M per club for the other 18) during January 2008, French clubs were more conservative. With a grand total of 27 buys (real buys, not loans), the french mercato wasn’t the most exciting one ever, even though various controversies (Fred and Lyon ’s attempted divorce , Gouffran’s love-hate relationship between Caen and PSG , and… And that’s about it, I think…), meaning that the main action was Lyon’s swoop for ...
