... OPS. That is even more impressive when you consider that was the year that Maris and Mantle were chasing Ruth. You'd think they'd have the highest OPS, but nope. It was Cash. He batted .385 with an OPS of .933 in the 1968 World Series as he batted clean up. The Tigers won the World Series that year... and the White Sox and Indians went decades without winning a pennant. They should have held onto Cash! STARTING SECOND BASEMAN PLACIDO POLANCO Polanco was an solid infielder who played on teams who wanted ...

... to fly out to center. Placido Polanco, however, followed by hitting a single to left. Bobby Abreu then jumped on Trachsel's first offering and launched it high and deep and out, into the bleachers in left-center for a 2-run Home Run to tie up the game. Trachsel continued to unravel after that, and very nearly cost himself the game. He would give up a single to Thome, and then, as Trachsel was apt to do when he allowed runners on base, he stalled. The game, to that point a quick affair, began to drag. You could see the infield grass grow as Trachsel stalled, and worked, and ...

Another interesting thing mentioned in Beck's article is that Placido Polanco is probably the best second baseman Renteria has ever played with in his 12-year major league career.  When the temperature dips below 10 degrees this weekend in Michigan, that's a thought you could warm yourself up with. ...

... money doesn't make trades happen. It only attracts dollar-seeking free agents. And if you look at the Tigers' now-explosive lineup, several of the big hitters have been acquired through trades. How have the Tigers made these trades? By giving up prospect after prospect from a highly successful farm system that continues to develop sought-after players. Here's the projected lineup for 2008 (not necessarily in the right order): CF Curtis Granderson, 2B Placido Polanco, 3B Miguel Cabrera, RF Magglio Ordonez, DH Gary Sheffield, 1B ...

Game 113 - So many headlines, so little time
Published 8/9/2007 at Rays of Light
Where to begin? Where to begin? I could start with James Shields . He was on as on could be tonight, making the Tigers look like mere kittens. 7 innings, 5 hits, 0 walks, 9 strikeouts. One bad pitch - a homer to Placido Polanco. A truly dominant performance by Shields. This was especially nice to see due to the poor performances he had settled into lately. He kept it relatively economical, too, throwing only 103 pitches in his 7 innings. The Tigers didn't have a chance against him tonight. Heck, he even struck out the aforementioned Polanco - a RIDICULOUSLY hard player to strikeout - twice. I could start with Dioner Navarro . The "Little Fatty that Could" is now hitting over .200! A 3-for-5 performance paced the offense, as he scored 3 runs and knocked in 2. He's really starting to heat up with the bat lately. Maybe he's starting to learn how to hit in this league. Or maybe pitchers feel bad for him and are throwing meat ...

Contacting Polanco
Published 5/1/2007 by billfer at The Detroit Tiger Weblog
... This is something that I actually started tracking a few days ago, but Placido Polanco is off to quite the start this year making contact. Polanco has always been a tough strike out, and for his career he’s made contact with 91% of his swings. For some context, the average is 80%. But this year has been different for Polanco. Going into Monday’s game, Polanco was at 98% with only 3 swings and misses. ...
