We'll look at how the team did last year, changes that happened or could happen with the team this offseason, and how it looks like the team will do in 2009 as of now. We'll even toss in the hottest thigh associated with each team. In this edition, we look at the Kansas City Royals. 2008 Outcome: 75-87, 4th Place In The AL Central, 13.5 Games Behind The White Sox. Bullpen Looking Strong for ‘09

... sidewalks), I realized that the next two months are unarguably the worst time of the year.  There are no redeeming qualities of January and February, with the exception of a couple of Monday holidays. In other words, we need to grab life in the palms of our hands and squeeze out whatever joy and optimism we can.  Here’s something to consider: the Red Sox bullpen for 2009. It appears that the Sox are looking at adding another arm to the fray after acquiring Ramon Ramirez and Wes Littleton.  According to Nick Cafardo, they have made an offer to ...

The James' projections recognize this by showing an improvement in his FIP. No worries here. Good thing the rotation is totally fine... As for the rest of the bullpen... well, I would have included Nunez and RamRodRam for the sake of once of showing the hilarious MLB mugshot of Ramon Ramirez's perfectly round head, or, as Royals Review once put it, "he looks ...

If KC buys out his contract then they basically gave the talented Ramon Ramirez away, he of the 127 career ERA+. Much like the possibility of Grudz coming back this is a terrible allocation of resources for a small market club. ...

... the 2007 Playoffs than he was during this past playoff run, Dice-K has ace-quality stuff although he needs to find his stride as a pitcher and give up less walks, and Jon Lester made a huge leap this season becoming a dominant pitcher, even as a lefty pitching with the short porch in left at home. Add to that the great young pieces the Sox have to try and make a move for a hitter (which they still need, imo) to make this dangerous team the team to beat next season. What Coco Crisp's loss means for the Red Sox

... that gives Coco a chance to play every day and the Red Sox a young, dynamic reliever, Ramon Ramirez , who had better numbers last season (70 strikeouts in 71 2/3 innings, 2.64 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) than any Sox reliever not named Jonathan Papelbon. For the Red Sox, this means many things, such as a better bullpen (hopefully), a chance for Justin Masterson to start (potentially) and more money to make a serious run at acquiring Mark Teixeira, who the Red Sox will break the bank for if they can convince him to sign, the Globe's Tony Massarotti ...

RAMIREZ IS COMING BACK TO THE RED SOX!!!!!

OK, so its Ramon Ramirez... not Manny... nor Hanley. But hey! It's not a bad deal for the Sox. They deal Coco Crisp, who is basically a 4th outfielder for an OK middle reliever. I said that getting the bullpen stronger should be top priority for the Red Sox, and you can't argue that a young reliever with decent stats is an improvement from an aging Mike Timlin. OK, back to the hot stove. &link;

Coco Dealt to KC

The Red Sox traded Coco Crisp to the Kansas City Royals today for reliever Ramon Ramirez. Ramirez, a 27-year-old righty pitcher from the Dominican Republic, was 3-2 in 71 games with the Royals last year. He averaged nearly a strikeout an inning, with a 2.64 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. He's more on Ramirez, from Baseball Reference. Moving Coco clears nearly $6 million from the payroll, and you have to figure the Red Sox will add another bat to the outfield. Crisp batted .283 -- .315 in the second half -- with 7 home runs, 41 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in ...

Unless you're far more familiar with the ins and outs of the Royals bullpen than I, I'm sure you had a similar first reaction: who? Fear not: once you take a look at the numbers , dealing Coco straight up for a no-name reliever makes sense. At 27, the right-handed Ramirez has three calendar years' experience in the majors - two in Colorado, one in Kansas City - with phenomenal numbers (ERA+ above 140, K:BB ratio of about 2:1, WHIP and ERA that have both fallen over time) over sixty-plus appearances in both ...

Crisp traded to Royals
Published 11/19/2008 at Extra Bases
The Red Sox have traded center fielder Coco Crisp to the Royals for righthanded relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez, a major league baseball source has confirmed to the Globe's Nick Cafardo. The deal was first reported this morning on Kansas City sports radio station WHB 810 by Brian McRae, a former Royals outfielder who is a part owner of the station. A Red Sox spokesperson told MLB.com the club had no comment on the report. Ramirez is an interesting acquisition for the Red Sox -- his arrival would suggest that the ball club is at least considering using Justin Masterson as a ...

ByeBye Coco?

... A Kansas City radio station says the Red Sox have traded Coco Crisp to the Royals for reliever Ramon Ramirez. We're still waiting to see the move confirmed by other sources. Ramirez had an excellent rookie year for the Rockies in 2006 before struggling in 2007, but bounced back following a trade to the Royals last season, posting a 2.64 ERA and 70/31 K/BB ratio in 71 2/3 innings. I've poured a few grains of salt on this report until I see a newspaper somewhere actually reporting this, but in the two seasons in which ...

That said, Quirk did have the good sense or good fortune to bring Kim in when he would face three righthanders to start the inning. As mentioned in our BP2K7 player comment on Kim lefties tagged him to the tune of .325/.414/.534 in 2006 and interestingly, even though he's probably better suited to a relief role (a ROOGY?) given his splits, as he did last night he seems to have control issues out the pen and last season the Rockies brass complained that he works too fast with runners on base. Once runners got on last night Quirk had fewer options and so did not bring in his last lefty reliever in ...
