The Transfer Window; Ruining The beautiful game

... to the Spanish Segunda) in the FA Cup and sit in a highly respectable 13th place in the Premier League. It’s true, money can’t buy you happiness now can it? Think Robinho is regretting his move? He might not come out and say it, but I wouldn’t doubt it.
Glory hunters never seem to amaze me. I bet 99% of foreign Manchester United fans can’t even find Manchester on a map. Same goes for Liverpool, Chelsea, Milan and Madrid. It’s not ruining the game directly, but there are very few true fans anymore. ...

Milan Jovanović turns down Everton

... “I’ve also refused the offer from Real Madrid because I believe that at my age it would be detrimental for my career to join Real Madrid at this moment and under the conditions they offered me. They offered me a one-year contract with the extension option of up to three years. I don’t want to prove myself to anyone after all the performances I’ve put in. The Real Madrid saga is history and I don’t wish to become a member of a great club so that I could only include it in my resume. You either go to Real Madrid as a star or you stay put.” ...
Real Madrid and Euro Vase Opponents

So here we are, two weeks after the debacle at the Nou Camp, facing one of our arch-rivals: Real Madrid.
While I’m not exactly AntiMadridista, as the shirt in the photo says, I can understand Valencia fan’s feelings towards the capital’s club. Constant media attention, the biggest stars, the 2000 Champions League final, Mijatovic, Mendieta and this year’s SuperCopa.
That’s a lot of reasons to feel AntiMadridismo …

... at Old Trafford. According to the BBC’s man in Manchester Steve Wyeth “It’s been strongly dismissed, and with pretty colourful language.” Any number of things could be happening here. First of all, maybe Trapote is lying. I’m sure it’s not all that rare for big time businessmen to brag about things that aren’t true. That’s why they all have big cars. Second, this could be a bizarre attempt by Real to wind up ...

... Mark Hughes club as been plagued with extraordinary inconsistency and regardless of the enormous headlines they attract, they are a club only two points from the relegation zone and one of the worst defending sides in the Premier League. While much has been said of their promising future and an ownership with open bank vaults ready to be purged for Football talent, they are showing painful signs of a lack of chemistry. While the clubs media arm will force-fed stories of former-Real Madrid man Robinho traveling on public transit to immerse himself into life of Manchester, comments ...

... Real Madrid aren’t exactly floundering, despite there current knack for losing to Juventus. It’s not like they lost their first Copa del Rey game to a Segunda B team or anything. Wait. Oops. I’d laugh more if we hadn’t barely beaten Benidorm 1-0 thanks to the aforementioned Bojan, though I have little doubt that RM will pull it out in the Bernabeu against Real Union. They will be without Arjen Robben, though, who looks set to be out for roughly the same amount of time as Iniesta after he got injured in training before this last Juve loss. ...

... late on through Tim Borowski. Fiorentina are now third place and haven’t won yet. They still have a chance to qualify, but must beat Lyon at all costs next round at the Franchi, then beat Steaua at all costs in Romania and hope Lyon lose to Bayern on the last. They have to win and hope things go their way but it looks like more realistically they will fight it out for the UEFA Cup spot.

While in Spain, he also secured the signature of Portuguese international attacking midfielder Carlos Martins from Recreativo Huelva. Still unsatisfied with his summer spending spree, Rui traveled down to South America and stole away 18-year old striker Jonathan Urretavizcaya from River Plate to inject some youth into the squad. ...

UEFA Cup Thursday Preview
Published 4/3/2008 by Ian Rose at UEFA Cup
... On paper, this is certainly the best matchup of the round. Getafe are doing well in Spain, and will figure that if they can win away at Real Madrid, they can do the same in Munich. But Bayern is the favorite for a reason, and now that they can smell a trophy, they will be more tenacious than ever. They have the most loaded offense in the competition, and Getafe will have a very serious job just staying in the tie for the return leg. If they can keep it close, we could see an upset here, but betting against Munich in this competition is a very dangerous strategy right now. ...
