WBC Is Still A Forced Competition Despite Hall Wanting Mementos

... WBC; I hate it. It is a ridiculous attempt to fabricate rivalries. If this event was played with amateurs, I would be more inclined to give a rats tail about it, but with the current set-up, it does nothing but take away from the present MLB season. Already the US has been close to forfeiting a game due to a lack of a bench. Some of the notable players already injured are: Dustin Pedroia, Larry 'Chipper' Jones, Kevin Youkilis, Matt Lindstrom, and Ryan Braun. David Wright might be injured after splitting the nail on his big toe after fouling ...

... Whatever your opinion of defensive metrics in general, discarding them all out of hand because of their flaws -- perceived or otherwise -- is probably a little short-sighted. Two systems coming to divergent conclusions about a particular fielder in itself shouldn't be grounds for ignoring one or the other or both. On-base percentage and slugging percentage differ wildly about the value of Ryan Braun in 2008, but that doesn't mean we're going to punt them both into the ether. The more data we have the clearer a picture we can draw (of course there is such a thing as bad data, but ...

Brewers show Braun the money

... ) The MLB players association must be very happy right now. The Milwaukee Brewers announced this morning that they've inked young star Ryan Braun to an eight year, $45 million contract extension. Braun is coming off a rookie season in which he batted .324 with 34 home runs and 97 RBI in 113 games, and he's gotten off to a pretty good start this year (.287/9/29). This contract comes on the heels of the six year, $17.5 million Tampa Bay gave to rookie third baseman ...

... Cholly, like hard-workin’ ligament-guys), we are equally concerned with your decisions. Just the day before Mr. Bochy made his error with Lincecum, you made a similar mistake with Hamels in a game versus the Brewers. Your star on the mound had pitched well through seven innings, allowing three runs (all in the first inning), striking out 11 and walking just two. He reportedly asked to stay in the game for the eighth inning to face the thunderous heart of the Milwaukee order: Braun, ...
Updated MLB Home Run Champ Odds

Sportsbook has once again posted odds on who will lead the majors in home runs this year. The original odds were discussed two months ago; today I am going to look at how "my guys" are doing, and see if there is any value in some of the updated odds. Ryan Braun Was 15:1 HRs: 3 Now12:1 Braun is actually off to a slow start, hitting .227 with no walks. Doesn't matter though, because a) it's 44 ABs, and b) he's on pace for 49 homers. I thought 15:1 was a little high, but not unreasonable- 12:1 is about right at this point. ...

... allow pitcher dave bush hit for himself in the top of the sixth of a one-run-game, only to lift him before he faced another batter, any baseball fan could begin to understand that yost might be over his skis. the same game illustrated another curious propensity, which is to lift powerhouse third baseman ryan braun with any lead after the sixth. braun is not a good defender, of course -- but replacing him with craig counsell (as he has more often than not) is an obviously counterproductive policy, particularly when that lineup spot is likely to come around again. braun has committed 22 errors in 907 innings at the position; but he's also hit 33 home runs and driven in 94 in 437 ab. he's clearly more likely to help you than hurt you -- that's why you play him at all. so why would you deny him at-bats? then compound all that with rampant rumors of player dissatisfaction with and antagonism against yost, some of who apparen ...
