... and Troy Percival. Along with being atop the East they also hold the best record in Major League Baseball. The Rays staff has been amazing this season, which is one of the main reasons they occupy top spot. It seems unlikely that they'll completely collapse at this point, but stranger things have happened. I couldn't care less who makes the playoffs to be honest so long as it's not the Yankees who look to be hard pressed on getting in this season. That in itself is fucking great. It looks like more waiting for Jays fans. Which sucks because they looked good going into the ...
No surgery for Percy; tomorrow still iffy
Published 8/18/2008 by Scott Caruso at Rays of Light
... : Greetings from the Trop, where the early returns already are positive for the Rays. It was determined this morning that Troy Percival did not need to undergo arthroscopic surgery to correct the cartilage problem in his right knee. The Rays had scheduled an appointment for him to have the procedure earlier today if necessary, but it wasn’t. For once, everyone agreed with the headstrong pitcher that enough progress had been made the previous few days to avoid the scope. Based on what we were told when Percival went on the disabled list Friday, the recovery time should be ...

... Troy Percival is pitching these days? He has nine saves, a 1.93 ERA, and 13 strikeouts in 14 innings for those pesky Tampa Bay Rays. Or maybe you're bigger than that, and don't begrudge Percival for collecting $12 million for 25 innings of work from 2005-2006. Injuries happen, after all. And his Tigers teammates thought enough of him to vote him a AL championship ring and full playoff share in '06. ...

Ideally everyone would list 5-10 players that the team can realistically acquire (meaning nearly anyone with our farm, but honestly I don't see us trading for Johan or Miguel Cabrera); with that being said here's my wishlist (no order): Mike Timlin - His sinker would be great assuming our infield defense is met with a range roaming shortstop. ... hree runs, only one earned, to pick up his 10th win on the season. Scot Shields has been very sharp lately after a very shaky start to the season, and last night may have been one of his best outings yet. Called on to deliver two innings, Shields responded by retiring the side in order in the seventh before striking out the side (with one hit sandwiched in between) in the eighth. He inherited a one run lead and delivered a three run lead to Frankie, who did his part by retiring the side in order in the ninth, picking up two strikeouts of his own. Coupled with the Mariners loss, the Angels were able to catch their breath a little bit, and they have a two game lead over the Mariners in the loss column, while the A's sit four games back in the loss column. Two more hits for Garret Anderson, including an RBI single in the eighth. Orlando Cabrera continues to sizzle, picking up three base hits, and upping his average to .339.
