The Advantage of Batting Left-Handed

TheGrandHatching Terrific article, John. Just out of curiousity, is there any kind of interaction of handedness x position within the two groups? That is, does one position in particular (say, 1B) seem to drive the difference in BA between righties and lefties while another (say, RF) seem to wash it out?
Operation Center Field: Acquiring Targets

TheGrandHatching According to Tom Krasovic (SD Union-Tribune), Jim Edmonds is also on the Padres' radar "if St. Louis would offset a portion of his $8 million salary and accept scant talent in return."
Padres Sleepers for 2008

TheGrandHatching Funny. Of the sleepers listed, I think I have the least amount of faith in the verteran Orange Giles.
Buster Olney Is Insane

TheGrandHatching Actually, Kevin Towers has said time and again that absolutely no one on the Padres is off the trading block. Furthermore, last season when Jake Peavy was asked about staying with the Padres in 2010, he had the following things to say:
- "I'm not optimistic about staying [in San Diego]..."
- "I hope it's not the case, but I think it's inevitable that I'll wind up somewhere else."
- "I am not looking to break the bank. I'm not saying I want a huge payday. I'm going to ask for what's fair. And although I hope it happens here, I just don't see the Padres spending that much on a player."
- "And if they're not thinking in that direction, they might decide to trade me before it comes to the point of free agency."
I'm Really Starting to Like this Team.

TheGrandHatching Agreed, patrickh. And I see this fight less so as a new "spark" than yet another comic display of Cubs dysfunctionality.

"If baseball is about beer and offense, then this is a lousy time to be a Padres fan."
Well done.
