Zack Greinke Has The Admirable Story, Not Josh Hamilton

MinorLeagueNews.com did a cover story on Zack back in 2004. He was a top player in the Royals' farm system. Now that he is getting the help he needs for his depression and anxiety, it is no surprise that he is back to his old stuff. The good news is that the arm got enough rest that he probably has a few extra years over his peers of the same age.

Lightning fire head coach Barry Melrose

You don't pull the plug on a veteran coach like Melrose for a slumpy start unless A) Something is really wrong with him or B) Your ownership group is either the amateur hour or had no confidence in the guy to begin with.

Lo Duca responds to Mitchell Report

  • mlnsports mlnsports
    +1
Lo Duca was under a lot of pressure in the Dodgers organization. Their internal memos and scouting reports said that he was too short to be a major league catcher, even though he was winning batting titles for the Albuquerque Dukes in the PCL.  It is not surprising that he bulked up to stay in the majors. He was always very worried about being tagged with a height issue for which he couldn't compensate.

THE MITCHELL REPORT

Yankees add Hughes to potential trade for Santana

  • mlnsports mlnsports

If Hughes went to Minnesota it would be a big boon for the Twins, who already have a lot of great young pitching in development. He might even get developed properly, not rushed in to satisfy the outrage of the New York media, etc.  The only problem is that, unless the Yankees are changing direction again, which is possible, and not going to the farm, but back to the Mercs, then Yankee Fan should expect a lot more near misses on those playoff races.  Really basic: The teams with the farm systems with hot hands and a few stock veterans win. Angels, White Sox, Marlins. Only the Cards have beaten that mold somewhat, with a bit lighter farm, but it seems that guys who are hungry beat up guys who are fat every day.  Nice to have the names for YES, but it doesn't win you rings.

Lastings Was Never Given A Fair Chance

Does Milledge have some sort of PR company that he's hired to knock off these "poor Lastings" posts? I covered the guy for three years before the "New York media" chewed him up, and if there was any guy that a fork and a knife and a typewriter were built for, it's Milledge: An 8 talent with a 10+ ego, even when he was down in the minors. If he spent half as much time working to be as good as he thinks he is, he might turn into a great player. The Mets were not the place for him to do that. The Nationals are the development equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle. If he wants to emerge from there in a year or three  and have a shot at doing something with his career, he's going to have to step it up. He told me that he liked watching video of great batters in his free time to pick up technique. He obviously needs to take that hobby up again. And Hotfoot, he is a problem child, not quite of the ranks of a Delmon Young or an Elijah Dukes... HEY! Maybe he can get traded to the Rays. They'll put up with almost anything....

ESPN - Major league pitcher Kennedy dies in Florida - MLB

  • mlnsports mlnsports

Players are checked for everything from heart murmurs to worms when they sign a major league contract, or even a minor league one. He has been through several organizations, which means several physicals. So either there are four of the dumbest doctors in the universe who missed the same thing, or, at 28, Joe Kennedy was doing something with 'roids or ephedra or some other performance enhancing substance, proving once again that MLB is still riddled with problems.

A-Rod to the Angels?

  • mlnsports mlnsports
    +2
We reported this almost two weeks ago. He would like to be in LA, and the Angels are looking for a draw to go along with all of their young talent. Mike Scioscia is a great manager. Since Torre hit LA my source tells me that the Dodgers have become an acceptable bidder as well. A-Rod is going to have to go to a major money market to be afforded. The White Sox don't want to pay for him, the Cubs ownership issues are up in the air, and the Red Sox are already primed enough that they don't need him.  So it will most likely be one or the other LA club, unless someone does a Rangers and overpays for him to the detriment of the club.

D-Rays drop Devil from name, now just Rays

What's in a uniform? If it is no. 1 prospects Delmon Young and B.J. Upton living up to their attitude and rep, then the sunshine is going to be a nice change. Otherwise, the devils are still in the uniform, underperforming the details. They still have to show me what they're going to do between the ears, not on the shirts, to impress me.  The 7,000 fans are nothing when you look at the three FSL teams around them Tampa Yankees, Clearwater Threshers, Dunedin Blue Jays who put out a good product for a whole lot less money.

We had been trying to do a comeback story on him, and the lid is clamped down so tight, which is unusual even for the tight-lipped Cardinals.  This sadly makes sense.

Bud Selig Comes To His Senses

If Bud Light came to his senses, he'd have suspended Bonds after the Balco labs thing was crystal clear.  He should stay away.  Legitimizing Bonds' theft of Aaron's record would be another fine mess that he'll drag MLB into.
