Falcons RB Dunn has surgery for herniated disc - NFL

Dunn's been an underappreciated player for a long time, and, by all accounts, is a fine person (especially with his charitable work), but it looks like his body's breaking down on him.  Seems like he's following the path Curtis Martin recently travelled.

David Beckham’s Debut – Most-viewed MLS Telecast on ESPN and ESPN2

This is predictable.. the hype around Beckham's arrival is unbelievable.  But MLS needs to be able to sustain these levels of viewership to justify the contract, and I'm very skeptical that the general public will continue tuning in.  His debut was spectacle.  The rest will just be poorly played soccer.

I've got nothing particularly useful to add, but thought this was one of the best written blog posts I've read in a while.  So-- nice job.

Also, I have no idea why this would be tagged as an NCAA basketball story.

Does Eric Wynalda Like Anything?

I think he fits in with the kind of tough-talking, sports radio image that ESPN seems to love in its personalities.  He seems knowledgable, and often I think he's fair in his criticism, but I'm sure ESPN is forcing him to follow in the angry, angry footsteps of Sean Salisbury, Stephen A. Smith, Mark Schlereth, etc.

For some reason, TV execs love that crap, which, I guess, means that viewers (somewhere) love that crap too.

One Man out, One League in Trouble

I could have done without that drawn-out movie pitch opening-- he made his point within 2 sentences, but, as usual, went the extra 10 miles to explain his metaphor to even his most brain-dead readers.

Otherwise, I thought it was an interesting read.

i suppose your buddy Blaze was also forced to play high school football against his will and would have been shot in the back of the head if he hadn't performed...  poor guy.

seriously, the difference is so staggeringly obvious that no one should need it explained.

yeah, i thought it was a good one-- just did a google image search for "club guido" and found the motherload of pics like this.

Turns out, by the way, there's a site called hotchickswithdouchebags.com, which hosted half the images I found.

it's pretty simple, man-- if you can't see the difference between cockfighting/dogfighting and little leaue baseball, then you're ignorant.   No need to explain anything else.

I wouldn't think this would be a very popular story around here, although I find it generally pretty accurate.

Sometimes I find myself wishing athletes and celebrities would use their positions of power more often to effect real change in the world.  And then they go and remind me that most of them just aren't that bright.

It doesn't take much to regurgitate tired, superficial talking points on an issue.

Peter King: Ranking the NFL QBs from No. 1 to No. 32

So Peter King would take Jon Kitna over Donovan McNabb?

Even if McNabb misses half the season, he'll win more games and throw more TDs than Kitna.

Kings coaching search could turn to Brown

  • tmcallist tmcallist

So then, in two years, we'd be looking at a story that says the Kings are looking for another new coach, and the roster is laden with too many pricey veterans.

Maybe Brown can convince Derrick Coleman to come to sacramento.

Assault Accusation Against Bengals' Chris Henry

Not that I like Chris Henry, but something about this story doesn't add up for me.

Why would he arbitrarily jump out of a van and beat the crap out of a 16 year old?  At the very least, the kid is withholding some information (ie- what instigated the fight).
