Congratulations, Fat Phil, you have yourself a new ball.

Are you ready for some football?

We're introducing a new game for the NFL season, 17 Games. Here's how it works:

  1. For each week of the regular season, you pick a winner from just one game—the team that you think will perform best against the point spread.
  2. You earn or lose points equal to the difference between the predicted and actual spread. Example: if the Colts were 4-point favorites and they win by 10, you get 6 points. But if they only win by 1, you lose 3 points.
  3. The person at the end of the regular season with the most points wins. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the person with the highest Golden Picks score from all NFL regular season games. So don't forget about the weekly Golden Picks Contest.

The Prize: What Else?

The Duke, also known as the Wilson Official NFL Leather Game Day Football. Throw it. Kick it. Spike it. Or mount it on your wall as a reminder of your victory. The Duke features Roger Goodell's signature, so you never know, it may be a collector's item before too long.

Group Contests

As with other BallHype games, you can run 17 Games among your friends by setting up a BallHype Group. As group administrator, just check "17 Games" from the Game Options page to start tracking it within your group. Pretty handy for running an NFL pool, not that we at BallHype sanction gambling or want to know about it.

We're hosting one group ourselves, the BallHype NFL Invitational, featuring some august blogging personalities and a new weekly columnist, Ty Keenan of Plissken at the Buzzer. Each week, Ty will be giving us an inside look at the matchups as well as results of the group's picks.

How to Play

Near the top of this page, there are 17 blue boxes, labeled Weeks 1-17. Click these to view all of the games for that week. Feel free to go through and make all your picks now; you can make changes up until kickoff. Point spreads also appear on this page, aggregated from various online sports books. For scoring, we'll use the spread at the time of kickoff. See full rules for more details.
