Report: Omar Vizquel To Join Chicago White Sox

Various media outlets are reporting that 43-year old Omar Vizquel, a potential Hall of Fame shortstop, is close to agreeing to a one-year contract to join the Chicago White Sox.
Vizquel would reportedly join the White Sox in a reserve role.
The White Sox have already made some changes to their infield this winter. Sox GM Kenny Williams dealt young second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields to Kansas City for Mark Teahen, and said he plans to play Teahen at third base in 2010.
At third in 2009 was Sporting News Rookie of the Year Gordon Beckham, who will now reportedly move to second base, vacated when Getz was dealt.
Vizquel appeared in only 63 games for the Texas Rangers in 2009, playing second, short and third. The switch-hitter batted just .266, but his leadership and still-stellar defense would be the assets for which the Sox would be paying.
Hall of Fame has some new additions

If you’ve never been to the Baseball Hall of Fame, now is the perfect time.

That’s because the Hall has added artifacts from the Yankees’ World Series win to its “Autumn Glory” exhibit in Cooperstown.

Among the items donated by the Yankees:

* Hideki Matsui’s Game 6 bat, when the World Series MVP drove in a Fall Classic record-tying six runs.
* Mariano Rivera’s postseason cap, when Rivera saved five of the Yankees’ 11 wins and posted a 0.56 ERA.
* Derek Jeter’s Game 6 bat; Jeter hit .407 in the World Series with five runs scored.
* Andy Pettitte’s World Series cap; Pettitte was 2-0 in the World Series, 4-0 in the 2009 postseason and was the winning pitcher in all three of the Yankees’ series-clinching victories.
* Johnny Damon’s spikes from his Game 4 double steal; Damon hit .364 in the World Series with six runs scored.
* Jorge Posada’s catcher’s mask from the postseason; Posada drove in five runs in ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, New York Yankees, Hall of Fame, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter
