    the Detroit Lions select: WHO?

Who do you think our good buddy Matt Millen will ultimately take with our first-round pick? A lot of names have been thrown around, and a lot of trade scenarios....

I have to think they'll trade down. BUT, if we do stick with the pick, I think they reach for Gaines Adams. It's a longshot, but I don't think they're sold on Joe Thomas or Brady Quinn. Please, God, don't let us draft Quinn.

Ya, trading down is likely. But, I don't know if I trust Millen to make the right call. Even if the Lions move down in first round.

If the Raiders keep to picking a QB, it should be an easy pick at 2 for the Lions to pick C. Johnson.

I don't know.  Brady Quinn is a good, not great QB. I don't think that would be a wise choice, but who knows?  He might be able to make a difference

Yeah... I don't think Quinn is a bad QB or a bad guy, necessarily. It's the Lions' track record of drafting quarterbacks in the first round that has me worried. Also, ya know, that Joey guy's legacy is still too fresh to bring in someone that resembles him way too much.

    I agree, that makes sense.

Honestly, I've talked myself into hoping they pick Calvin Johnson. Obviouly a WR isn't the biggest need, but I don't want Charles Rogers and Mike Williams to screw this team twice -- once by being a bust, and again by making them too nervous to draft a sure-fire star.

Honestly, I've not seen enough of Calvin Johnson to make an informed comment about the guy, but that being said.... we have wayyyyy too many holes to not trade down and get quality high picks in return. The patriots have shown us the way bruthas... you dont need superstars to be great.. you need a solid system..and players willing to perform at their best within it.

There are a lot of things that could happen.  The Lions may try trading Josh McCown to the Raiders in hopes of drafting Jamarcus at #2.  It would be great if they could get a quality offer and trade down but it's hard to get a fair deal for such a high pick, especially in the NFL draft.  I wouldn't be surprised if it came between Joe Thomas, and Gaines Adams. Anything could happen though...it is the lions.

Joe Thomas. It's safe, it's smart. You need to build on the line before you can think of who to stand behind it. So it'll never happen.

Agreed. The only time "smart" and "safe" and "Lions" get used in the same sentence is: "It would be smart to keep your kids safe from Lions at the zoo."

I'm thinking they didn't get yelled at enough for taking Sims last year - a good player who could have been had further down, so another undersized effort guy would be the obvious choice.

Brady Quinn is the 2nd coming of Joey (or is that the 3rd coming of Eric Hipple?). I am hoping the Raiders do a deal of Moss plus something and feel that they can get that franchise QB a little later or through trade, take Johnson and allow Jamarcus to fall to #2.
