Comment by mlnsports in Is the Red Sox Farm Machine Still Churning?

The Red Sox have had a farm run paralleled only by the Florida Marlins in 2001-2003. The big difference, of course is that Mr. Henry's checkbook is much larger than Mr. Loria's, and the club can afford not only to bring in the occasional big gun along with the freshman, but can afford to sign and retain the Papelbons and Ellsburys of the world. Based upon what we saw last spring, the farm still has a depth of talent, although no one in last year's transitional class was screaming phenom. Still, some guys will be moved on this year to other clubs to give them opportunities to make the major leagues, which creates a forward hole for those staying to fill in and shine.

Josh Papelbon, big J's little brother, has a number of tools, and he has the family pedigree, but will he be able to turn it on enough to land a spot on the Fenway 40? Jury is still out on that one.
