Been ready since end of the AFC Championship game. I think the Padres have a good shot at taking the division again and I can't wait to see if Mark Prior can return to form.

I have no idea. The Padres are probably the single worst fit for Bonds in all of MLB.

Bonds' fielding has deteriorated and his knees can't hold up playing full time in the field. PetCo has a particularly expansive outfield where fielding is at a premium.

San Diego hates Bonds.

PetCo was practically designed to hamper Barry Bonds personally.

I just don't see Bonds coming back period. He can't field anymore, most of his time will be spent in court and I just don't see anyone wanting to take on his problems without the guarantee of a return on their investment.

I would almost put money on Bonds not even playing this year. He might as well retire while he's ahead.

It makes no sense to me, other than what Dex says, because Bonds is BEST suited for an AL team as their DH which would fuel the fire of any anti-DH fans out there, but it’s true. He’s almost a detriment out in LF these days. His knees just can’t keep him in the line up as a full time LF’er.

Lazy reporters look up Barry Bonds "stats" and see that he hit more home runs against the Padres (in Qualcomm) than anywhere else and say, "Hmmmm... Barry Bonds hits homers... He's hit lots of them in San Diego... He should play there!"

I also like to think that there's a subversive thing going on where if, through the power of telepathic and journalistic suggestion, they put Barry closer to the Mexican border, he'll be more tempted to take a few illict trips to Mexico for things that will make for juicy news stories. Yes. I know that's a f_cking fantastic pun. And yes. You can use that with your friends later.

My question is this: Why do people in other parts of the country keep trying to make Barry Bonds an object of the Padres' interest when everyone in San Diego (including the folks who make decisions about these things) dismissed the notion months ago?

I'm still a bit worried about Edmonds in center and the back-end of the rotation, but I think the Pads have as good a chance as anyone in the division. So, you guys ready?
