I think it will be a real disappointment if they put up any less than 11 wins. They won 11 last year despite going through some serious growing pains, insane coaching (for the first half of the season), poor run D, poor special teams, and losing their QB. I think they have definitely improved since then and should challenge for the NFC Championship again.

From what I can tell, like last season's schedule it is soft early and tough later.

The NFC East should not give us too much trouble, despite last year's woes early on. With Parcells and Tiki leaving for good, I like our chances against Dallas and the Giants again (regardless of last year's 24-7 meltdown in the fourth quarter). Washington continues to be our whipping boy as Gibbs can't catch up to the modern era of the NFL. 4-2 at the worst, 6-0 at the best within the division.

Detroit should be handled as should Green Bay as we've had their number the last few times, even when McNabb was playing like crap. The Jets should be an interseting match-up as the 3-4 defense can give our offense fits at certain times. Chicago are the defending NFC champs, but we've seen what happens to the the losers of the Super Bowl the following season. I'd chalk up two losses here.

I can't really get a bead on Minnesota, which can't mean much. There will be growing pains with a new quaterback under center. Miami continues its coaching carousel of embarrassment so notch up two more wins.

Now the rough stretch with five games against teams that were all in the playoffs last year. The little re-match of Super Bowl XXXIX should wind up with the Pats winning yet again. Reid has no chance of out-coaching Belicheck. Seattle could be a win depending on the status of Alexander and Hasselback as each had sub-par years due to injuries.

We return to the Big Easy for the thrid time in two seasons and I have feeling we may win this time around. McNabb should be back to full strength with the team playing in full playoff mode. The third time is hopefully the charm because we need to get this monkey off of our back. As for the season finale, all's well that ends well whenever you play a team from Buffalo without a real running back. So a potential five game winning streak is possible at the end of the season.

A potential 12-4, but there has to be a silly loss in there somewhere so 11-5.

I read this article by David Aldridge back in February and I would have to agree that I am ecstatic that the Sixers have won more games than we thought they would actually win this season. They were floundering so much so that I'm sure that we all had a countdown to lottery day of the draft just to see if we were in the top two.

Now, in the Post-Iverson Era, without someone wanting to take all the shots and thwarting the growth of our other players, we have a team that is looking to have potential to be a contender for the next few years in the Atlantic Conference. I know that's equivalent to being the closer in the Phillies bullpen, but at least we have a legit shot as many of our players are realizing now that they have talent and the ability to play in this league.

Recall that they did beat the Suns (who were on a 17 game winning streak). I know the Suns were bound to lose at some point, but I saw it as a sign of hope. And things will only get better with the draft. Here's hoping Horford drops to us.

I'd prefer if they lose, but I don't think it's awful for them to win.

It's good to see them making plays down the stretch in tight games and playing together as well as they are. They're a really likable team right now, which we couldn't always say about them over the past few years.

I agree with you. I never want to watch that team and not see the players doing whatever they can to win games. That's what they are doing, so how could we ever be upset about that?

It would be one thing if it was the final week and we were a game or two out of the worst record in the NBA. I could actually see the reasoning for tanking a few games... however, you don't tank for a month or two. Given where the team is now, I'd rather just see them play well and win. Durant and/Oden aren't within reach and haven't been for a good while now. I think the dropoff from them to the #3 guy is whole lot bigger than from #3-#10.

Am I completely alone in thinking that the Sixers winning games right now is more important for the Sixers (the development of Andre Iguodala as a leader and superstar) than a couple of losses would be (maybe a couple slots higher in the draft)?

Seriously, even if we lose the last 6, it's still going to be a long shot to get in the top 2 spots. Beyond those guys, how much different are 3-12? Any one of them could be a bust or a superstar and I'd rather have Roy Hibbert (#12 on ESPN's list) than Joekim Noah (#5).
http://www.depressedfan.com/blog/2007/04/sixers_show_heart_ground_the_h.php

Most consistent Phillies reliever is not exactly a huge honor at this point. The guy has never been closer pedigree and to promote him there on the strength of 2 outings is a bit premature. Even for a Phils Phan.

A little early in the season to make that move, but if Gordon continues blowing saves and Gillick can't make a trade for a closer its not a bad idea.

Is it just me or should the Phils actually promote their most consistent bullpen member to their main reliever? Tom Gordon was a set-up man prior to arriving in Philly and as I recall, Geary was a beast last year in the relief.

Thoughts anyone?

Up until the Takeo Spikes deal went down, the draft picks that the Sixers acquired from the AI deal looked the best to me. You can't knock the fact that there is so much hype about this year's draft being the deepest in years. What's even more shocking is the fact that Billy King didn't squander those picks for some over-the-hill veteran.

The lottery was looking pretty good for us until Andre Iguodala blossomed and the rest of the team followed suit. I'm disappointed that we miss our shot at Durant and Oden (if he comes out), but there will still be quality players to choose from in the top 10, and we still have 2 picks in the first round after that if we don't package them for a deal to move up. I would not mind Al Horford being on my team. He seems like a real baller to me and gives us another inside presence in addition to Dalembert.

The Takeo deal took me by surprise honestly. I didn't think that the Birds' management would deal for a player who is 1) coming off a serious injury and 2) has broken through to the age of 30 where upper management snubs players of kinds. Despite those things, he definitely is an upgrade to the LB corps because that position needs some serious retooling. I was hopeful that we would draft someone like Patrick Willis, whose probably undraftable now with his combine numbers, or Paul Pozluszny. We still may, but Heckert and company are always mum about their plans so we'll see what happens in the draft. I'd say safety may be the position we're eyeing since Doss got away from us today.

I have mixed feelings on this. With Rollins and Victorino at the top of the lineup, the Phils don't have to depend on the long ball for runs. Those guys can steal bases and score on singles. Utley is a better contact hitter than Howard, so you've got a 1-3 that should manufacture runs even w/out an extra-base hit. It worries me that the Phils might put the breaks on Victorino and Rollins with Howard at the plate because they don't want to take the chance of getting thrown out when he could put one in the seats anyway.

If the Phils don't fall into the Earl Weaver trap, and keep those guys running early and often, then it's a good move. You can't walk Howard whenever you want now.

i thought it was an interesting move. it gives howard some protection, but we'll definitely see a dip in his Ribbies without a .300 hitter in front of him. i think if i were Uncle Cholly, i would have waited to make the move until we started to see the walks get ridiculous. we'll see how it goes tomorrow night.
