Mets looking closer at 'pen help through trade -
With plenty of deals already made throughout the league, and exactly a week left before next Thursday's 4 p.m. trade deadline, the Mets are still deciding when -- or if -- to pull the trigger themselves. The most obvious need is for a corner ...

I don't think yesterday's game is getting enough hype
I don't think yesterday's game is getting enough hype
Yesterday afternoon, Pedro Martinez, Carlos Muniz, Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis and Billy Wagner combined to throw a one hitter against the Colorado Rockies. This was the 33rd Mets one-hitter in team history, and the 33rd time the Mets have come this close to a no-hitter. A truly amazing performance from the staff, especially considering Pedro Martinez was pulled from the game in the ...

High times for Heilman & bullpen
Aaron Heilman is obviously more relaxed. The reliever was joking around and smiling Friday night after the Mets' bullpen combined for another three scoreless innings in a 2-1 win over the Rockies at Shea.

If Mets keep Heilman, he could get chance to start in 2009
Despite his spotty season, Aaron Heilman continues to draw trade interests and could be used as a chip by the New York Mets before July 31. Arizona, Boston, Oakland and the Cubs are the teams that call the most with the Diamondbacks among the clubs ...

Gardening With The New York Mets
Jerry Manuel, who is kind of like a hipster version of Ozzie Guillen, has a lot of fun playing with metaphors. Most recently, he referred the Mets’ fan base as fertilizer. To keep Manuel’s aesthetic vibe going, I decided to craft a piece about, well, flowers. Jerry calls the fans fertilizer, so I call Aaron Heilman a pussy willow. Fair enough, right?

Early Morning Madness: Nearly handing it away edition
Early Morning Madness: Nearly handing it away edition
I can't freak out and worry about the Mets meltdown and as they nearly served up last night's nine run lead of a silver platter because the bullpen has been extremely dominant as of late. Aaron Heilman 's two runs allowed were his first let up since June 12. Heilman has seemingly turned it on lately, but still has not quieted doubters of his talent and ability. I still hear people calling for ...
