Tampa Police arrested Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Al

A lot of people out there aren't really
taking the Tampa Bay Devil Rays all that seriously.
Sure they're a great story right now because they're in first place in the AL East and they own the second best record in baseball. But it can't possibly last. Not so fast my friend. Sports bettors are taking the Tampa Bay Devil Rays very seriously.
Now that baseball has proven that they can
adapt to the modern times by adopting Instant Replay
, we at the Deuce think it's time for the great American past time to take a few more steps to becoming a modern day sporting bonanza. Here's a few other ways that we think Major League Baseball can take steps towards modernizing the game for the 2000s. ...
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees
have long been known for their fantasy value, but
in a year when they're not living up to the hype, the three other AL East teams are picking it up. Screaming Sports' Phil Yoon answers five questions in regards to the fantasy value of the AL East.
The world sits at the feet of New
York Mets slugger David Wright , who has seemed
at ease with it all since his 2004 rookie season. Wright's bat, glove and sometimes his bare hand have put him in the company of the greatest young stars, while his ...
During the offseason it looked like the AL
Central could be a serious asset from the fantasy
perspective. But as Screaming Sports' Phil Yoon explains, it didn't immediately live up those expectations.
While the rest of baseball heaped praise on
Mariano Rivera for his Hall of Fame career during
Monday's All-Star media day, Jonathan Papelbon declared that he deserves to be the AL's ninth-inning man at Yankee Stadium Tuesday.
The Oakland Athletics beat the Minnesota Twins 3-0
last night to improve their record to 13-9. That
record has put the A’s in a tie for first place with the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. Not a lot of people expected much from the A’s this year (that includes yours truly), but folks tend to forget that this is an organization that has had only one losing season ...
It appears the Tampa Bay Rays may finally
be on their way to draining the swamp the
organization has been mired in since its inception in 1998. For the record the Rays have won 70 games once in their 10 seasons, even with Lou Piniella at the helm for three of those seasons.
The American League East is annually the noisiest
division in baseball, and this year the division has
been even louder than usual. The Red Sox have their usual angst, the Yankees are in last place, which has somehow made more noise than when they are in first, and the Tampa Bay Rays have gotten everyone's attention with their hot start. Even the Baltimore Orioles have gotten a little ...
Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton , who leads
the American League in home runs (15) and runs
batted in (63), has jumped from sixth place last week to second place this week among A.L. outfielders in balloting results for the 79th All-Star Game, ...
During the offseason it looked like the AL
Central could be a serious asset from the fantasy
perspective. The Mariners and Angels seemed to have several players poised for big fantasy seasons, but as Screaming Sports' Phil Yoon explains, it's been the Rangers and A's who have stepped it up.
It’s a long season, let’s practice a little
patience. While you may start getting frustrated with the
start of a couple of your star players, it is still worth waiting awhile longer as the season settles into a rhythm before acting upon their initial disappontment. Though, at the same time try to send out feelers and see if anybody might be willing to part with a C.C. Sabathia or Robinson ...
The Big Hurt's been cut. Is he HOF
material? When I was a wee lad growing up
in the burbs of Chicago, I wanted to be a professional athlete like most little boys can dream of at age 8. Naturally, as I tried to learn the games, I also looked to emulate my favorite players.
As the Pirates are getting shelled again and
wrapping up a record tying 16 th consecutive losing
season, I'm forced once again into the glorious past. Nate McLouth has started off this season with an 18-game hitting streak, longest since Al Oliver did the same in 1972. I'm irrational about the Pirates in general, but Al Oliver is a bigger weakness than most for me.
In the eighth of a 10-part series, the
author takes an in-depth look at Major League Baseball
history from 1971 to 1980. This is pretty much a one-topic issue: the 1970s. It takes us up to 1980, so just two decades to go in this series. I found that writing about the Seventies was just as much fun as the Sixties.
Friday marked the beginning of round no. 2
of interleague play. Two NL teams have struggled against
the AL in the early goings of the season. Through Saturday, the Milwaukee Brewers had lost all five games against the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins. The San Francisco Giants, meanwhile, dropped five between the Chicago White Sox and the Oakland Athletics.
There was a time when the AL dominated
not only the All-Star game and World Series, but
the fantasy world as well. However, here in 2008, at least one of those is beginning to turn around. As Screaming Sports' Phil Yoon explains, the NL is slowly beginning to narrow that fantasy gap and now may be more excited than the AL.
Although the fantasy gap between the AL and
NL has gotten significantly smaller, the AL still has
the bragging rights. And thanks to the surprising Tampa Bay Rays and several prominent rookies, the American League has stayed slightly ahead of the curve, explains Screaming Sports' Phil Yoon.
