With no help from a benched MVP, the
Phillies offense completely wasted a solid pitching performance. Jamie
Moyer pitched 7 strong innings and gave up only one run, but the Phillies couldn't solve Oliver Perez, who pitched 7 and 2/3rds innings, struck out 12 and also gave up only one run. The Mets rallied to win in the 8th inning when Carlos Delgado doubled in a pair of runs...
I updated our Win Shares stats through yesterday's
games . Over the past two weeks, six players
racked up three Win Shares: Melvin Mora , Carlos Delgado , Troy Glaus , Adam Dunn , Jhonny Peralta , Jim Thome and Ryan Braun . Looks like some sluggers are starting to heat up.

With six days of baseball after the All-Star
Break, the author had a lot of ideas, but
none deep enough to fill an entire column. Here are some more random musings… Just saw The Dark Knight… It was one of the better movies I’ve seen in years. It totally lived up to the hype. In my opinion, it transcended the genre of “comic book movie.” It was an insanely intense crime movie, ...
Yesterday, I brought you five of the reasons
the Mets wouldn't make the postseason in 2008. Here,
now, are the five reasons I think the Mets will make it to the playoffs and contend for the World Series in '08. Johan Santana and Aaron Heilman are...
Don't look now but the streaking New York
Mets have not only climbed back in to the
National League East pennant race, but have forged a tie with the Philadelphia Phillies. The slumping Phillies now have a three game set with the Mets starting Tuesday with first place on the line. Philadelphia has been fading fast as they have lost 20 of their last 34 games. ...
The Mets are tied for first place, but
everyone loves a pessimist. Here are the five reasons
I think the Mets will fall apart and fail to make the postseason.
Johna Santana has his worst start in blue
and orange, lasting a mere four innings and allowing
five runs to score before getting chased. The Mets didn't seem to care. The bullpen faltered, for the first time in 22 innings. The Mets didn't seem to care. Billy Wagner blew the save in the All Star game. The Mets didn't seem to care.

he's pitching impressively in the meantime, says Mike Harmon.

Jessica applied Sal's quick-and-dirty Marcel spreadsheet to the
Mets' players to project how they're likely to perform
for the rest of the year . (We're on a first-name basis with everyone around here.) One good sign: Carlos Delgado, .256/.342/.473.
Which Blue Jay will have his breakout season
recognized as the best in Blue Jay history?
The Mets have been the team that we
thought they could be, finally. Mike Pelfrey has blossomed
into a wonderful pitcher, Johan Santana has plugged away at his consistently wonderful pace, and Olvier Perez has switched his mechanics and seen great results. The bats are back too, as Carlos Delgado is getting on track (maybe), Jose Reyes is on an absolute tear after getting off to a slow start, an
After Sunday night's victory, Carlos Delgado couldn't help
but ponder if the Mets would just keep tacking
on 'W's if there were no All-Star break the next three days.
Carlos Beltran hit a three-run homer, Mike Pelfrey
provided the latest dominant pitching performance and the New
York Mets held down the Colorado Rockies 7-0 Sunday night to take a nine-game winning streak into the All-Star break. Carlos Delgado ...
After a bad call by an umpire during
a Mets-Mariners game, Delgado and Beltran get furious.
