Does CC have a Cy shot? It's unlikely

I'm back in the swing of things following a weekend away with my family, just in time for the bulk of the BBWAA awards to be handed out.

Congrats to Oakland's Andrew Bailey and Florida's Chris Coghlan, who took home Rookie of the Year honors on Monday. I don't get all that excited for the Rookie of the Year award. There's generally not much competition and many winners wind up returning to anonymity within a couple years. For every Derek Jeter, there's an Angel Berroa.

Up next? The American League Cy Young award, which figures to be a two-man race between Zack Greinke and Felix Herandez.

Here's the complete schedule for the upcoming awards:

Tuesday, Nov. 17: AL Cy Young
Wednesday, Nov. 18: Manager of the Year
Thursday, Nov. 19: NL Cy Young
Monday, Nov. 23: AL MVP
Tuesday, Nov. 24: NL MVP

CC Sabathia may have tied for the league-lead with 19 wins, and his numbers (19-8, 3.37 ERA) are remarkably similar to his Cy numbers from 2007 (19-7, 3.21 ERA), but the guys he was battling two ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, Cy Young, New York Yankees, C.C.

CC Sabathia has always said that a World Series ring means more to him than the Cy Young Award. That's a good thing, because the Yankees' ace is unlikely to add another Cy Young to his mantel on Tuesday.

The Yankees Potential OffSeason Shopping List for 2010

Christmas shopping for all of us is about 30 days away.

For the Yankees and General Manager Brian Cashman, he may be starting his shopping in six days.

Friday, November 20 will mark the beginning of Major League Baseball's free agency period for all teams and all players.

So far, the 30 teams have six more days to re-negotiate with their players before they hit the open market for good.

Last year, the Yankees spent $161 million to get CC Sabathia, $82.5 to get A.J. Burnett, $180 million to get Mark Teixeira, and traded for Nick Swisher. All the moves in the off-season were tremendous moves made by Cashman and helped bring the Yankees their 27th World Series Championship in 2009.

Now, with Friday looming, what does Santa Cashman have in store for Yankee Universe in 2010? Who is on his wish list, or maybe even, his shopping list?
Yankees' Andy Pettitte: An Outstanding Third Starter

Andy Pettitte is not the best pitcher on the Yankees' staff. But he was the winningest Yankee pitcher in the postseason. And that's BECAUSE he was their number three starter.
CC Sabathia is clearly the front runner. But between AJ Burnett, who has a slightly lower ERA, and Pettitte, who has a marginally lower FIP (sabermetric ERA), it's not clear who's really second or third.
FanGraphs valued Pettitte worth $1 million more than Burnett in 2009, meaning that he is a "very qualified" Number 3.
Sabathia had to pitch against top-of-the-rotation Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies, John Lackey of the Los Angeles Angels, and Brian Duensing of the Minnesota Twins in the first game of each series.
Burnett's initial opponents were Philadelphia's Pedro Martinez, Los Angeles' Joe Saunders, and Minnesota's Nick Blackburn.
On the other hand, Pettitte faced Cole Hamels of the Phillies', Jered Weaver of the Angels and former Yankee Carl Pavano, the weakest of the Twins' pitchers in his first games of ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, New York Yankees, Andy Pettitte, A.J.
It's Tribe Time, Sort of: Former Indians Make Postseason Impact

It was another disappointing October in Cleveland, as it has been each year since 1948.

It is perhaps a blessing that the Indians did not make it far enough to collapse on the big stage, as they routinely did throughout the '90s and again in 2007.

However, while the team as a whole did not reach the postseason, many Indians alumni got to experience the playoffs. Here's a look at the former hometown heroes who got a shot at glory.
Pitching For The Milwaukee Brewers in 2010: John Lackey

His acquisition would ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, John Lackey, Milwaukee Brewers, C.C.
How the Newest Yankees of 2009 Contributed to a Championship Run

When the Yankees finished 89-73 and in third place of the American League East division, it found them out of the playoffs for the first time since 1993.
It was a tough thing to swallow for the Yankee fans, players and management. Which is why general manager Brian Cashman vowed changes. Changes for the better.

But because Nady went down with a season-ending elbow injury, Swisher ...

Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: MLB, New York Yankees, C.C.
